More Uses for Domesticated Animals

Postby JimmyThreeNut » Thu Oct 24, 2013 5:36 am

At the moment many repetitive tasks in the game take a tedious amount of time to accomplish.
Now rather than botting, I suggest we use a common method of satisfying laziness in the real world:
Forcing lesser creatures to do boring stuff for us
Add some more tools, which require a cow to operate. Such as a plow that requires an ox tethered to it to function, but plows three tiles at once at running speed, a device that is loaded with stone/brick/seeds and when pulled over tiles proceeds to lay down the items inside, a fast cow mill, or simply the ability to tie a cow to a stump and then lead it away to uproot it.
Also being able to put traveler sacks on cows, using them as pack animals, coupled with the ability to teleport with them would be interesting.

Criticism/Further Suggestion Welcome

Also, a more far-fetched suggestion:

Tameable attack bears.

Confer.
Have we not come to such an impasse in the modern world that we must love our enemies - or else?
The chain reaction of evil - hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars - must be broken,
or else we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.

I'd rather just have some method to travel with livestock more easily so they could be viable trade items. And except for wool being sort of useless (which having more woolen clothing and construction textiles could help alleviate), animals have a lot of use (well mainly cows as their nutritional products are extremely important).

Although I do like the idea of a cow pulling a plow, if there was some automation to it, that would help a lot with manual farming, and the pack animal idea for mobile storage sounds good, although wagons already hold tons of shit (albeit they are huge and can't fit in gates or navigate that easily).

This ^^ - most definately!

I'm not sure about a cow being used to uproot a tree stump, whilst I agree the time it takes to dig it up could be shortened in some way, i'm just not sure this is it, but a cow could definately be used to haul logs and plow at a faster speed than chars/carts. And also be used as a pack animal.

Personally I don't want tameable attack bears, i'd rather have horses to ride into battle and just for transportation of chars and goods in general.

The single best upgrade this game can have is the "legit" automation of tedious and repetitive task. Some people would say "nah, doing manual tasks by yourself is the point of this game", but automation of tasks by implementing technologies is the logical step that every civilization takes through time. In this matter, the idea of using animals to facilitate farming and other tedious tasks is A MUST in future editions of this game (or perhaps in this very edition ;) ).

Another thing that comes to my mind, is the ANNOYING pathfinding algorithm that animals have, they always have a hard time trying to walk close to fences and walls.

you are aware that you can make strings out of wool, right? is it that useless?
(ofc more woolen clothing or textiles are always welcome though.)

it's a bad idea to use wool for strings, it's hard and slow to increase wool quality from your sheep while easy and fast to raise hemp and flax quality ! (just saying).

The only GOOD use of high Q wool is to make Stuffed Bears.

the game doesnt distinguish between a rope made of fibres/taproots/nettles and that of yarns currently.
no matter how strange it sounds, its how the game works now. just saying. if you dont like it, dont use it. but dont call that useless just because you personally dont like the idea of it.

That story is disturbing, also I wonder why she didn't just call the emergency services herself.

Honestly this game needs so much before this. Like a new default client, fun mechanics that don't need to be botted, some form of level cap (or softcap), horses, bridges, a better map gen, local resources, seas, bigger boats, and the list goes on...

But sure, a sausage that only took pig meat would be cool.
