Fewer Metals

Postby Rador » Mon Dec 16, 2013 4:51 pm

Hey,

Don’t know if it has been posted before, but I guess that it would help to increase the enjoyment of the game if there were a metal system that encourages longtime motivation; like a mix of w3 and w4 mining. At the moment, after some days, the first people have metals, but since iron and other metals can be found really easily, the progress is too fast. It would be nice if iron, copper and tin were almost as rare as gold or silver; i.e. very few caves have natural metal nodes you can mine. You would have to work in order to get metals at all. As it is now, you can just go out, prospect, find either copper, tin, iron or a mix, but if metals were rarer, you could really slow down the progress and add to the enjoyment of the game.

Just an idea

from a long time experienced players view it might be right but i guess for most more unexperienced players it's still a hassle with metals (especially when hermitting and being jack in all trades)

Also there wouldn't be nofunny "Build BW asap" posts no more ;)

Yeah without modifying other game mechanics that will be just a blow against hermits.
Better add some more rare stuff like diamonds of some shit like that to keep the things interesting.

I would like to mine into something interesting to. Its to much same old down here.

Maybe take a page out of DF. Mine into a cavern underground, maybe a dragons lair or even something simple as aquifer that you need to plow through with sand and soil or whatever.

Mining is boring endgame and metals are practically used to make curios in bulk or just wall grade steel. Tin/Copper on lvl 1-4 is useless and gold/silver are nice but you can easily trade for it.

Not even Qnodes are interesting cause other ways exists to get higher Q metals.

Edit: not a dragons lair I mean troll lair.

I like your idea :) But i doubt that J/L have time to code something like this. Even though id love to see something more creative and unique.

I already requested to have a rare event like wolves in a cave, seperate from the cavern system, similar to a cellar, but I don't think loftar/jorb are interested in change, and that's also why they hate obama.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy
