Person A has a friend, Person B. Both of them don't know person C
Person C impersonates person B and gets something from person A, who thinks he is giving it to person B.
Would the court say that it's not an act of stealing? Most likely no, it will be considered a fraud in order to get access over person A belongings under the false name.
That's what actually you did: you were trying to fraud someone to get access to someone else's account.
It's not technically an act of stealing, but fraud is not better than it anyway.

Just saying.

While I see where you are going with your example I don't feel it holds water very well at least for this scenario. The difference being he wasn't impersonating someone that they all knew and trusted, he made up a character all on his own and attempted to rise through the ranks which in my mind is quite different.

Yes, he was trying to impersonate not the actual person, but the image of it. Although, in real world, that usually would be considered as a pretty same shit as actual fraud.

I don't exactly view it as that, I started a completely new identity, in a completely new place.
Worked up the ranks as a different person and they knew me as that person.

I don't think me being behind the keyboard really matters here.
Anyone could have joined them, acted the same way and done the same things.

It just comes down to how they decided to act around my different persona that got them into trouble.
Maybe just don't let people you don't really know get into positions where they could get their hands on accounts/keys/crossroads next time

Infiltrating the enemy's ranks is a common tactic in any war like scenario be it in a game, including this game where the practice is rampant, lol, a rl war, a war against crime, a war against terror, two groups of kids, w/e and is used by both sides, it is not seen as a 'scummy' tactic, it is seen as an intelligence operation.

Look up 'undercover' and 'spy', lol.

I have been in more than one conversation with various faction members where the talk has turned to spying, from what I have heard you say, you all try to do the same thing. And I've also spoken to players on the receiving end of having had spies or suspecting spies, so why does everyone act all outraged when it's Jordan that's done it?
Would you all be saying the same if the situation were reversed and Troll and the m8's had successfully gained access to LO through planting a spy? Or would you then be saying, 'haha, Jordans retarded', for not noticing?

As for account stealing and fraud - really?! That's just laughable.

Btw windmaker, just to be clear - There are NO incidents of Jordan ever stealing someone's account, faction members share combat chars all the time, whatever you think of his actions here and whatever you think his intentions were, until anyone ever gave him a char which he then changed the password on and stole - he has not stolen an account and has not been involved in an account stealing incident.

I really don't see how what he did is worse than bashing, griefing, or raiding noob settlements, things I'm almost certain every m8 has done.

It was a tactic that relied more on brains than combat stats. It caused some damage to his enemies. End of story.

M8s should be proud he had to do that because he can't beat all of them in a straight fight, and Coles should be proud he outsmarted the self-proclaimed invincible m8s. It's pretty simple really.

no, amanda, the point here is rather that joco is joco even when he is trying to play another identity, unlike how patch did.
ignore those who just want to accuse foul plays for anyone anyways, but being revealed as a spy is a total failure and most spies - game or real - who are decent enough accept the reputation they get by their own deeds. thats the price they choose to pay.

Who cares about reputation in a virtual world? o god, there are people who takes this game too seriously, like it would be their only life.
