rotateable inventory items

Why do I have to store boards upright? If I've got enough space in a row it'd be nice to store them horizontally instead of having to do the item shuffle

Sorry, it probably won't happen.
I tried to convince Loftar that you should be able to, but he thought it was "reasonable" that you can't.
*Sigh*...

That sounds like stark raving madness to me. I'd be interested in hearing his justification for it, that's for sure.

The main reason is probably him being lazy.

While I can certainly empathize and might in some situations* say that this is indeed, reasonable, as it is I think it's something that should get in there eventually. It's not way up on the list but still a very handy feature.

*Namely, anytime I was involved in said situation.

My reasoning for not wanting to be able to rotate inventory items is because their differing shapes represents the "bulkiness" of an item in various ways. It often happens that items are either too irregular in shape (e.g. the blocks of wood) or too incompatible with each other (say, apples and boards) for one to hope to pack them optimally in the sense of minimizing dead space to zero; one can only hope to pack them optimally in the sense of minimizing dead space to its minimum, which is greater than zero. If it were possible to rotate items, we couldn't use the broad/tall distinction to make items incompatible with each other in that sense.

And for once loftar is right on something. So chances are that this is not going to change. ;)

Of course, Jorb's verification of something being right or wrong is about as good as a 50/50 chance, so that did not add much to the discussion. ;)

Personally i don't see how it changes anything. you can still carry just 3 boards and 4 apples. It's not changing. But it helps to pick up a board if you have a horizontal row free. Same with arrows. Less micromanaging and less clicking.

I get that it's an abstraction, and it does represent bulkiness in a way... I'm certainly not asking to be able to 'bend' the board in any way, but usually you can lay big objects sideways when packing them with a lot of little things on top of them.

Tetris lets you rotate things... I'm just sayin is all... Tetris...
