Game Development: Villages

Postby jorb » Sat Apr 03, 2010 6:57 am

We've been developing tonight, and here's what's new.

Villages: The main change we will be introducing is that village claims are now, akin to personal claims, square in form, to better conform with the game's tile-based general model. In addition to this, the village authority model has been changed. Each authority object now puts a drain on your village authority -- instead of, as previously, giving authority -- meaning that they steadily draw authority from the village authority pool. If the pool ever reaches below 50k authority, the claims will be deactivated -- i.e. will no longer perform crime checks -- and start to decay. If the authority pool is below 50k, Authority objects can also be destroyed. Village lawspeakers and chieftains can always destroy authority objects. If the idol is destroyed, so is the village structure, and all members are kicked out of it, rendering it non-existent.

Authority is now gained by village members gaining LP. The authority gained is base LP gained by the character (i.e. unaffected by learning rate), factored by the geometric average of the character's charisma and intelligence, divided by thirty.

Also:
Founding a village now costs 30k LP.
You no longer have to be five people to form a village. You can be anywhere from one to five. The founding cost is distributed evenly over all founding members.

All previously existing authority objects are null and void, and will be deleted. What will happen, however, is that the old objects will drop their construction materials on the ground. The items being on the ground means that they will disappear if the server crashes, or when it reboots, so get them quickly if you want them back. We know this sucks terribly, but it is what it is. It is well worth noting that the new claim sizes have been increased several times over, so you shouldn't (by far) have to build as many authority objects as previously.

BUT. Village Idols themselves will remain on the map, complete with member lists (you will, thus, remain a member of any village you were in). These old idols need to be right clicked by someone (anyone at all) and, when they are, they will be reactivated.

Other:
One new container
One new adventure menu option for remotely declaiming your personal claim. Yes, it asks for confirmation, and has no shortcut. We know this is weak and lame.

Update your clients, plox.

Just in case you hadn't tamed yours yet.

Enjoy.

Bullshit try A>R for crim actions

*EDIT* Try most hotkeys, actually. Every hotkey perhaps. WOW. Great job.

Also, do something about birgir bragging about nobody else seeing the secret idea thread? Inner Circle or whatever?
