What use is the latest "upgrade"

Postby sami1337 » Thu Jul 09, 2009 6:12 pm

I log in to find our vault completely pillaged by a person that logged out when he spotted me.
This is ridiculous. This update just ruins everything. Sure vaults are lame. But where the fuck do we store our stuff now? Do we have to abuse heartfires in cabins?

It's not even legitimate theft. They just toss out everything and hope it decays before we login.

I will be abusing it because there's no other way to somewhat secure your stuff from a random person.
Fuck this shit.

hearthfires can be destroyed. So abusing them means nothing now.

As for keeping things safe, There is no garanteed way now. So if someone steals, track them, knock them out, destroy their vault, take your crap back and. Hmm, How about this.

Find new members for your village or area to keep an eye on things.

You could always log out with the most valuable items.

Yeah only problem is that we used to have a claim in the mine but lost it thanks to that claim limit "update".
There are no scents. Just a couple trespass scents, that's it. I know who is causing us grief. It's the same person that said he would never try to destroy any town.

I won't be playing till there's a fix for this. Thanks devs for wasting that many hours of mine for nothing but opportunity for people that only want to destroy the game.

I said I wouldnt destroy any town, I'm tubai cuhiro and those are likely my trespass scents as I frequently disregard claims but never steal. But I can honestly say I've taken nothing from Laketown.

I have now finally fixed so that whoever ownes a mining hole also own the inside of the mine (the entire inside, that is). I'm not sure about all its consequences, but it should fix this particular problem in part, since it makes vandals leave clues in there.

For what it's worth, I also added a sound effect being played during object demolition (the same as when chopping trees, currently), so you can leave a client in the background logged in in the vicinity to be "notified" when someone is demolishing something.

Of course, some better safekeeping of stuff should be added, but I'm not quite sure what (probably fences/barricades/walls). It's not entirely easy to keep the balance, that's for sure. :)

*sigh* I was so happy when I saw this update. New features! Ability to destroy the rubble littering the RoB area. And houses weren't made destroyable, so, I thought, my little vault was safe. Finally, an update that wasn't all about trouble making and trouble makers.

Unfortunately hearth fires are now destroyable - so now there is now nowhere one can leave expensive objects during lengthy transformation processes - wrought iron becoming steel, and silk eggs hatching. (At least the latter don't take so long, meaning it may be possible to hatch eggs on weekend days, if one is willing to monitor a session for most of one's waking hours - and not really play, since one would be idling by a group of herbalist tables.) Alternatively, of course, one can simply track down and murder whoever boosts one's proto-steel/proto-silk. I predict another surge of conflict.

The obvious correction, by the way, is to remove the ability to destroy hearth fires, until you implement some better security.

Well... as far as I can tell, there is one failsafe vault option left.

You build cabins in a hermetic seal, and store your gear in chests in a cabin which has a door that opens into the sealed area. Put your hearthfire in there. Port to RoB when you want to go outside. You can make one of these babies anywhere there is a lot of wood. This is a good option for a village, as you can all put your hearthfires inside it before sealing it, and then just port back to village idol.
