Make babies.

Postby Rift » Thu Jul 09, 2009 3:07 pm

Just thought i would throw it out there. I wish people could have literal families and make babies.
Maybe they could adopt too.

You could implent it so that say a person has the option of either starting in ROB right away.. or join a queue to be born.
Could make it easier on new players to understand the world if they were taught by someone, say their parent(s)...
Plus it would build some stronger bonds between players ect...

...i'm not asking for something graphical or anything btw.. just like a "option to mate" or something and if theres someone in teh brith-queue, have a chance of them being selected to be born in the woman.

It's insane enough for me to want to try it, and I have thought along those lines, but... /me pictures a dozen "baby in cradle" objects strewn around in various wicker baskets around the RoB... no. ;)

When someone suggested a wiki, i agreed. because the learning curve on this game is huge.

But in all honestly its pretty fun learning it by trial and error. and learning it from others is a good part of the socialisation of the game world. When i first turned up at the RoB 2 players were hanging out ready to help new players. Along the way i meet several good people who put me on their kin list so i could ask for help.

promoting this culture is a good idea..

But conceptually families? I don't know

Instead maybe citizenship offers can be posted by lawspeakers? So new player can choose to join a town? Might cause greifing problems.....

I don't know about Jorb, but I have been thinking in very similar terms. I'm not sure exactly how it would work in detail, but it would be nice if new characters could join a town which has put itself up for public joining. That is, so that those new characters would even begin playing, then, by the village idol. Certainly, there would be quite a few details to work out.

That would be nice once it's worked out.

And as for the babies. It's kinda a cool idea. Perhaps babies can act as slots for newbies to spawn at. So a baby would grow into a newby. It would be hilarious if the lawspeaker could give the newby a second name or surname. Perhaps resulting in a long blood line.

A lineage system would work well. You could possess your legacy if you are full change and take on their attributes and stats.

I totally love this idea to bits. A lot of attention in this game is going to be placed on death, and worship of ancestors is my understanding. Well, why not make it that if you want your 'name' to survive after you die, so that you can pass on your stats and property so forth, you need to have a kid?!! After a while it grows up to a small little guy running around, and then it becomes your avatar after death?

For neat little ideas on how kids and stuff can be included in a 2D game, I again recommend U7. The nappy changing is hilarious.

Yea I think this would be a good alternative for people who are full change.

This whole idea is equally weird, crazy, cool and disturbing. I look forward to seeing what the dev's come up with. Hopefully it's not done before stuff that's a pre-req for the map re-set though as I can't see it adding a heap for people who play for a long time

If possible, I'd like a place where new players can get acquainted with game mechanics without having to worry about getting their stuff stolen or getting murdered.

In another MMO I played, new players had the ability to instantaneously teleport to "Haven", an area with newbie shops and basic necessities. The area becomes inaccessible when you reach level 25.

Perhaps we can implement a similar system? Except they would get kicked out upon earning enough LP or learning a "black skill".
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.
