The reason things like cavebulbs, chants, linen, and clay are so easy to trade with is because the other party doesn't want to expend the time or effort into getting them themselves, as they can be doing more profitable things with their time. Thus to make it worthwhile they need to get a lot of return for each exchange. Generally people are going to want at least a half dozen bulbs at a time, and I wouldn't be surprised to see people trading for chests full of them.
Tobacco likely won't be worth anything in the long run, as eventually it will just be another crop, but for now it's not as common, the established farmers haven't gotten large crops of it at high qualities yet, and so it is still a commodity good. It'll be worth a bit for a while, until it's fully saturated the playerbase, and then it'll be worthless like everything else is.
