Graduated Vengeance

Postby niltrias » Sat Jul 11, 2009 6:34 am

How about this':

When an AFK person is KOd, they cannot be murdered. Their body lies on the ground until they would stand up, then logs itself off.

If a person is summoned with a murder clue, it works the same as it does now.

This way, Theft will be punishable by a beating and a return theft. If someone were really angry, they could repeat with enough clues to actually permakill a thief, but that would be time-intensive unless the thief left a carpet of clues. Also, this would make grievous damage more important.

We would see a shift to a three-tier justice system -- lowest is simple location of Hfire, then a beating, and inventory theft with POSSIBLE death, and at the highest level, offline permakill.

What do you guys think?

Right, all the clues would be there, so theoretically, the theif could take it, track you down, and steal it back. Otherwise I think it would deviate too far from the designers ideas.

But if this were implemented, there would be more survivability for thieves, which helps them, and more incentive to hit a single rich site than ransacking an entire settlement. It would be almost impossible to murder someone with a single theft clue. This would make producers happier.

Niltrias what would happen is you'd have alts activating afk in the middle of settlements to taunt you, not to mention abuse. So I give this idea a thumbs down.

Thieves don't even hold the stuff they steal on them anyways. Its usually gone right after they are full of stuff.

If they went afk in the middle of a settlement, you could knock them out and then they would be logged off. of course, that would leave a crime clue. Maybe when/if lawspeaker can erase crime clues on claimed property. Then it would be fun.

Well people shouldn't be rewarded for going afk. Why do you prefer this system over a full on death/ko system we already have in place. If you disagree with the morals of full on murder just ko them and strip them naked.

Its not about the morals of murder, its about the ease of murder.
And this wouldnt be much of a reward...going AFK would result in being knocked out and losing all your stuff.
That does pose a problem in terms of combat tho...there would have to be a "Summon" state, as opposed to the current "AFK" state. Leave AFK as it is, and have murder clues summon offline players AFK, while battery, theft, and vandalism summon people to the "Summon" state.

This would work, because a lawspeaker of a town where a theft occured could issue a COURT SUMMONS on the criminal, after 3 in game days (A real day) of not responding to the court summons (They would be notified in game upon logging in) the next time a hirdsman or lawspeaker representative of that town, (Or the owner of the claim) summons them, They leave no assault, battery or murder scent.

EDIT - Please not that Im against NOT being able to kill a person, I just believe that there should be a way to kill criminals without leaving scents. This would encourage more civility.

Edited- edit: Encourage, NOT ENFORCE. creating a structure for players to be able to use, not a system that they MUST.

I was going to say "Well, TJG does this all the time. And you could just use :afk to go invulnerable" .
I agree with JTG in that it's abusable.
The ones who see things differently.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

As a remedy to the problems brought about by people going :afk why not make it so those summoned from a theft scent can only be knocked out and robbed? This way you'd get the same effect as suggested but without the abuse.

On the whole though I don't know if I support this idea.
