Map is completely inaccurate

I am in a party with someone and on the map (not the minimap the actual map) it is constantly showing them to be the same distance away from me no matter how far I walk and vice versa. He walked so far he hit the northern ocean and it still shows him that I am north of him, which is literally impossible because I can't go into the deep part of the ocean. Is anyone else having this issue? It's a pretty major issue because we just wasted 2 hours walking in complete opposite directions and it's gonna be a hassle getting back to eachother.

Im his friend, we didnt spawn on different continents as far as i can tell. No matter how far north i move and how far south he moves, it says we are the same distance apart

I fixed the bug by entering and exiting a cave, and it updated his position to the correct position. However, as soon as I start moving, it places his party icon back to the glitched incorrect position. His correct position is in fact on another continent way to the west, but the bug is still there as long as I am moving. For him, it shows me in the middle of the deep ocean when he is on the coast.

It's not a bug, you are not supposed to measure distance like that.
It only helps you to see the direction they are at. If one day you explore more of the map it will be more accurate

The direction isnt right either way, we're seeing two different directions when festipiggy goes into a cave and comes out. Glitched state we're north and south, semi-fixed state we're east and west
