stuck in the gate

this happened twice now, once with a woodden gate and once with an iron one. if youre between the cornerst while closing it, you get stuck.
its just minor but still.

Well, there are three possibilities...
a) it doesn't close at all if someone could get stuck,
b) it can close and make you stuck, or
c) it can atom smash you.

I know we don't want c), and when you compare a) and b), b) is merely an inconvenience to the gate owner, while a) leaves the possiblity of someone getting in just as you're trying to close the gate. I think it's best we stick with b).

You're ignoring:
d) it shunts whoever is under it out of its path as it comes crashing down

nope.
its also no problem to just open the gate. just doesnt make sense to be able to close it in the first place.

In practice, this could be just like option a) in uselessness, which is why I thought of it but didn't mention it.

How is it useless? I can think of two important features that are almost unarguably useful.
1 - You can close your gate if someone is standing in the way.
2 - You can't get stuck in your gate accidentally.

More arguable is the benefit that no-one gets hurt

The gate has no way of knowing which way is "out", so it could let the potential intruder in.

If they were standing in the gateway when you went to close it then they were pretty close to being in anyway, you also know they're in. I don't see it as being a major issue...
