Peaking caves no longer working properly

It used to be you can peak anything by shift + right clicking it then you can look at the other side for a pretty long time. But now if you peak a cave sometimes it works as intended and other times it just sends you straight through after a couple of seconds.

Happens on default client, repro steps appear to be this:

Find a cave, peak and go through, then peak and exit the cave. Then when you peak the cave the bug will trigger.

short video here showing the time frame once bug is triggered,

Doesn't happen with stone mansions or mineholes. haven't tested anything else

Interesting. The auto-enter has always existed, but it took much longer to trigger. I just tried this using Ender Client, and the first time it took 55 seconds to trigger. Ever since that first time though it's been 5-6 seconds consistently, both cave -> surface and surface -> cave. This persists beyond logging out and closing the client. Is some server-side variable no longer being reset?

Ah, seems to be working as intended. When I headed to another cave entrance, it didn't force me in after 5 seconds; I waited 30 seconds before manually clicking to go in, then peeking to go out again. After 30 seconds of peeking it forced me out.

Looks like you just get 60 seconds of peek time per entrance (in either direction) and if you waste it all you need to wait for it to recover.

hmm, maybe that is the intention, strange for caves to have unique behaviour for peeking though.

Is it unique for caves, though? Doesn't it do the same if you peek into a house for more than a minute straight?

seems to occur on houses too. i think VDZ is correct in how it works i tried with a few houses. as long as i was changing up houses it was a min... but if i did the same one over and over it went to 5

yeah maybe I didn't try it for long enough. This is definitely new behaviour though, my guess is anti-cheese using cave entrances to fight things

Huh that seems kinda weird, like i get that peeking should have a time limit but why doesn't it reset once you stop it. Might be intentional but idk, just seems like a very odd choice from the devs, like you can still peek if you stop every 4 seconds it's just inconvenient.

The auto-enter after a minute is not new, it's existed for years at least. I've never tried re-peeking for >5 seconds after getting forced in/out (I always cancel peek after a bit to prevent getting forced in/out) so I can't guarantee the cooldown isn't new, but it's probably existed for ages as well.

Facts:
- Initial default peaking time: 60 seconds.
- A quick logoff + 2min + restart did not reset this peeking-timer thing. (... so "something" is saved ... per character(or account) at least.)
- All doors in same house use same (bugged) peeking-timer instance/variable. (ergo: 6 seconds on one door == 6 seconds on all doors in that house)
- Peaking at other house (or cave entrance), resets peeking-timer on last used house/cave-entrance. (Or ,,, new fresh peeking-timer instance/variable is creates, while the old one is thrown away.)
- (same cave/house) Peeking-timer only resets back to 6 seconds after it times-out. Ergo: At some point peeking will force you to enter. (normally entering has no effect on this.)
(Seemingly inconsistent behavior => bugged -- One way or the other)
