The difficulty is you can't really record what the world is like on launch week or even month before it happens. Starting now, in a dead world, is going to be nothing like starting Nov 1, in a new one. The best we have are from W15 launch over a year ago and there have been changes since then (albeit not much has really fundamentally changed since W14).

A YouTube version of Basic Claim Safety would be great, but whether you spawn next to a bunch of claim bashers or not changes things completely. Explaining how to place a Pclaim in front of a cave entrance and block it with a bunch of naked alts so they have a somewhat-safe place to dry the hides for their first palisades is some advanced stuff for a completely new player.

If a new Steam player doesn't do this, and they plan on playing in the first month, they're in for bad a time.

I did ya fuck, Goddam this forum is still a cesspool full of negative shitheels.

OP ignore anyone that cant keep their daddy issues out of the discussion. This game needs all the POSITIVE publicity it can get, and anyone willing to throw effort into making a youtube series shoudl be lauded. Dwarf Fortress is a labor of love just like this and launch made them millionaires. Its important and shouldnt be limited to 3 sentence comments. Get fukked grumgrumganoe

Yeah, get used to it. Been that way forever and the devs clearly have no interest in doing anything about it. Unfortunately I think it's going to have a rather large, negative impact on the steam release. Just look at how many people are still getting the devs (well, mainly jorb) involved in and preoccupied with irrelevant drama during a time when they should be putting all of their focus on making sure the release does as well as it can.

I've noticed recently that other small game community devs hold 'content' competitions with actual rewards for contributions

So there is some actual incentive to spend time advertising their game on YouTube...

Could be a token for best series of screenshots, or a gold subscription for best tutorial video for instance. Even better, a limited edition hat/cape for top prize.

Votes/decisions should not be done by the community though, only the devs. Or some way to only allow voting to be done by verified accounts.

Tutorial on hunting and combat system.

Wow, one of the best HnH tutorials I've seen. Very surprised.

HnH needs a Streamer-Mode that makes it more difficult to geo-guess a player's location.
An option to make the world look slightly different on a visual level. Hiding player names and login info. Randomizing the look of biomes. More difficult to read tile-transitions and rivers.
That might convince players to create more content.
