A solo hermit retrospective on w16

Pottersdam County is occupied no longer for this world. I thought it'd be fun to just do a write up of the solo experience for W16, I felt like I got further than most other worlds I played in.

I was the (more or less) sole resident of the village of Pottersdam County. I did have one village-mate I tried teaching the game too, but they lost interest pretty quickly. We were located just west of the Northern Balls Bay, south of the large swamps in the area, in a nice region between two great bodies of water.
I was very proud of my Hermitage this world. I decorated the village with streets and a central plaza beneath my Great Hall, and set up market stands and roads for internal logistics. My strength broke 500, and I was mining bloodstone and iron ochre for steel armaments on level 5 of the mines. I maintained a large farm, with a healthy herd of pigs, cattle, sheep and horses. By the end my stores were filled to burst with cheeses, wine, vinegar, metals, etc.

The journey was difficult at the start. In week 1 I was ko-ed and raided by early rage users (probably balls bay) but I took a small break and locked back in to resettle and start anew. Despite my proximity to balls bay this world, which has grown quite large, that was the only pvp confrontation I had. For the rest of the world the only people I met were other hermits passing by. To this day my thingwall remains unclaimed by any realm. My mines were also brutally barren on levels 1 and 2, it wasn't until my level 3 until I actually had access to ore, and I had been prospecting for minimaps. The fun for me this world was trying to be self-sufficient, but in the end due to my unlucky mines generation, I needed to borrow my first few bars of metal just to get to level 3 where I had access to heavy earth and wine glance.

My character's final act was to help slay a troll that one of my neighbors had unluckily unearthed. Thankfully we performed admirably together and through our teamwork, the beast was slain, and I left the spoils to them.

I really love haven and hearth, but at the risk of making this a critique and ideas thread, my reason for ending the story here more or less comes down to burnout. I took a one week break from the game, and when I returned my animal pens were in ruins, my coops were all dead, and my curiosity report was empty. Even more so, I was hitting a big wall in mining prior to my break - my iron ore was only around q100, and with my strength around 500, I was still unable to mine effectively in my level 5, and my level 6 wasnt looking good for iron either. I sold what few resources I had to green temptations for a good pickaxe, but at that point, it felt like an empty victory. Maybe I couldve kept eating, kept farming trees for longer, and made it work, but other games have more to offer.

So Judas Iscariot's story comes to an end this world, and while he sleeps, he dreams of trolls dancing.

for factions and casuals share same server a lot of fun must not be allowed, from mining progression to vehicles usability, everything is a little gray colored in haven mechanics, but that's supposedly because griefing would become unmanageable

Unfortunately I also agree somewhat to the posts here

I had a village, was self sufficient and was making progress, and this after the WB situation.

Problem I ran into was the experience bug and it took me literally covering 2 days of travel in dugouts to finally get my crafter alt to start getting exp again.

Now I sit and I just do not, at this time, have the heart to really go at it again. So my chars are living off the curios I have made, found, foraged until I, again get the desire to play again, or until another world.

I would hope this: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=77328

will come to fruition in W 17, but prolly not.

Getting that far as a hermit is pretty admirable. Takes hundreds of hours, right?

Were you strong enough to try any dungeons by yourself?

But yeah next thing is to wait for a fresh new world.

Yeah I played pretty consistently in order to keep animals fed and curios going. Definitely in the hundreds easily this world.

I did only ant and bee dungeons, I definitely couldve taken on a beaver with some allied assistance but never got around to it.

the first 2 months was lit, unfortunately its not really fun to grind out endgame goals(?) when they can be easily cheesed, and feeling like the cheese is a necessity because the grind vs reward is so little
