I think an awful lot of the people posting still don't realise that H & H can be played multiple ways, and there are many, many players who play it differently than you do. The devs are trying to keep the different types of players happy - The payer base would be one third of the size it is, if they only allowed for one style of play.

Don't get me wrong - Steam launch is great idea. But it all feel rushed, whole stream could be summarized to "We'll see", "We have not been thinking about it" and "It's experiment". That's not how it should be, expecially w/o EA tag. You try to get attention of new players, when game is not prepared for it right now w/o official and actual wiki or proper tutorial. You will get tons of negative reviews and word of mouth AND you are pissing off you current, loyal playerbase. That's a BIG FAT L, J&L.

Without my hatts and tokens I spent money on (and for some people - verification) I'm not intrested at all in S1. Neither plenty of folks I usually play with. But good luck I guess.
This post is well thought out and spells it out.

also splitting up your playerbase is a bold strategy. now its legacy, legacy lite and steam.

Would be cool if the non steam server was up for long time or semi permanent.

There might be a positive side to no hats or RMT being available via steam.

Here is a little screenshot that is being shared from one of the seedy and lesser known discords in this community:

This guy is a very well known scammer who has made a small fortune stealing money from people in RMT trades. Sadly, this kind of thing is very difficult to police.

It's somewhat comforting to know that there will be at least some of the playerbase immune to their tactics.

Cannot stress to you guys enough how badly your policy on botting is gonna be received by steam normies. Seriously.

But there are a few things that need to be done to avoid burnout, and a few systems that rely on very long periods (pigs with truffle snout finding higher tier truffles, for example) need to be adjusted. As a first, credo quests should scale from 1 quest per level -> 2 -> 3, etc.
I don't even think that credo change would be enough.
I'd rather see the amount of quests needed for each credo be directly related to what tier the credo in question is. So Fishing, Foraging and Hunting are all tier 1 Credos, therefore they all take the exact same number of quests to compete, no scaling at all. Do them in any order, they'll always have the same amount of quests needed for completion (Same as what we have now for completing your first credo)
Second, third, fourth and on tier of credos follow suit, they're given a set number of quests needed to complete them, more per tier but not scaling like they do now.
Current system sucks ass and quickly becomes too much of a boring and frustrating chore rather than a fun quest to go through with your character.

pretty much this ^ and also the stance on custom clients that are much better for pvp and pve than the standard client, steam reviews will completely rip these 2 points into overhelmingly negative.

For the love of God DO NOT let the non-steam accounts login into S1 (unless it's a one-time 'linking the accounts' process) and DO NOT allow to launch the game with a custom client outside of the workshop, this is a great opportunity to level the playing field between sweats and normies, otherwise steam server will be turned into a bullying fueled negative review spewing machine.

Steam won't stop multiboxing, it will just be more difficult to setup. Multiboxing is always going to be a thing and so, the steam release should support it easily as well.
Multiboxing is only a thing because the game is designed to incentivize it with actions taking forever such as mining, paving, terraforming, etc...
You should be able to open Haven's Steam version and choose to login with how many different characters you want at the same time.
Multiboxing is just human botting.

Also people are underestimating burnout. If you release a new world ever 3-4 months, the starting period will be repeated a lot more times which will leave players to hate the early wipe as well.
More than 3-4 months is needed between wipes because it will just accumulate burnout throughout wipes and will not let any future wipe have any sort of HYPE into it. This results in fracturing the playerbase further as some people will just skip a wipe here and there.
Besides that, such short wipes ends up killing any point of playing for anyone that is looking for any sort of permanence of their actions in the world.

In short, wipes are fondly looked upon because they are rare. If you increase their frequency, the hype between wipes dies as well.
Look into other mmorpgs or extraction games for their wipe frequency.

i hope you realize they cannot enforce blocking custom clients from the server. All this will turn into is extra hurdles for authenticating into the server, and even less people having the technical know-how for connecting to the steam server from a custom client

if you're worried about "sweats" and the playing field being level, this only makes the problem much worse
