Re: Game Development: World 16, with Steam
They were talking about the "hour glass" on the stream, about it only being there to be able cancel the action you are doing and showing off the animation larp or some shit. Should drastically reduce the timer for spitroasting since it is not in line what they said on stream. It is silly that you literally have to afk on some actions or use bots/alts as workaround for things like spitroasting

That's a little dishonest, they also referred to it as a "cost."dafels wrote:They were talking about the "hour glass" on the stream, about it only being there to be able cancel the action you are doing and showing off the animation larp or some shit. I think it's pretty funny we're debating the merits of botting roasting spits (not big advantage, little bit larp, just make more spits), when it's possible to go from 10 -> 1000 str in three days with fully botted cheese about 3 months into the world, and this is common for any faction that plays past 3 months.

(this is from a part of a reply of mine from another post.)
after reading how much the botting issue truly is, Yea i'm not a botter, never claimed to be. But I Wasn't even on the same map as you all were when it came to just how much you guys botted.
FFS, this is a no name game that's free.
There is honestly no real reason to even attempt to compete, like It was before.
Botters are true cancer.

You don't need to bot to be competitive really, I think the general issue of botting to be competitive is blown out of proportions. There are tons of people out there that don't bot and are competitive

I think the built-in auto harvest is a good example of the approach I see working best. By integrating functions from the 3rd party clients/bots to increase QoL and respect our IRL time a bit more....as more and more gets added you have less need for external tools.22nd_ChuckNorris wrote:I agree, the disparity between custom clients and the default is much too high, same with botting vs those that don't, very likely most steam users wont like this at all either, you devs know better what solutions are possible from your end as you have much more backend info than us, but its definitely something that should be adressed in either direction if possible pre-steam release.Audiosmurf wrote:I honestly don't know how to realistically address it, I'm largely just light heartedly griping. I do think wrist slapping the obvious 24/7 botmasters with mini-divine-interventions would at least make a dent, but I'm also sure that's reductive and it's not so simple.loftar wrote:What kind of "addressing", more precisely, is it that you'd like to see? Also, where would you draw the line? Do you make a distinction between "pick nearest herb" or "close nearest gate" bots, drinking scripts, farming bots, the built-in autoharvest action, foraging bots, surveillance alts, &c? Just curious. If I gave you admin access, what would you do?
My main issue, personally, and I think what you're going to hear a lot of after launching to steam, is that knowing that there are players who are getting the same rewards as you (or, generally, better rewards because you can time/optimize things better with automation,) basically without Playing The Game cheapens much of the sense of accomplishment/progression, leaving larping as roughly the only gratifying thing left.
One of the best steps I ever saw you guys take in this regard, just as an example, was the addition of curio tables to remove the disparity between the theoretical barely existent vanilla client normals, and losers like me who stayed logged in permanently with an autostudy script running. Jorb asked in the stream, approximately "if everyone could do it, would that make it fine?" and the answer is yes, 100%, it's the inbuilt disparity of proprietary client/scripting stuff that's the issue.
Like, if you knew that everyone who was in the know was just perpetually getting stronger/progressing like it was EVE Online, but you're only getting better/stronger when you're Actually Playing, I'd suspect you can surely see how this would dampen or snuff the enjoyment of someone who's not already an entrenched player, yeah? I sincerely think it's gonna be a real problem for this game in a normie ecosystem.
It's kind of like WoW vs FF14 on add-ons; FF14 doesn't need em, so doesn't have to balance around them for the most part. WoW its so deeply ingrained Mythic Raids are designed for the .01% of players and they all use like 20 ESSENTIAL add-ons. They're trying to fix it but it's a long battle
so this one time at band camp.............

yea but you need to compensate that lack of botting with a lot of RL time investeddafels wrote:You don't need to bot to be competitive really, I think the general issue of botting to be competitive is blown out of proportions. There are tons of people out there that don't bot and are competitive

I don't think it's even about being competitive, it's about "why spend my in-game time doing something when someone else is doing the same thing for the same rewards without actually Doing It?" It cheapens the experience and perceived value of basically everything you do.dafels wrote:You don't need to bot to be competitive really, I think the general issue of botting to be competitive is blown out of proportions. It's not that individual domestic animals eat too much, it's that you need too many animals for breeding. Let us feed royal jelly to a pregnant animal to get max rolls on all the stats.

this too tbh. breeding/raising animals is a pain. Honestly I still don't actually understand what i'm even supposed to do for it between how should I balance the stats i'm trying to raise and breeding Q etc. the entire domesticated animals mechanic is a black hole of no information to the player.Potjeh wrote:It's not that individual domestic animals eat too much, it's that you need too many animals for breeding
I think breeding quality should be removed tbh, but would also be nice not having to refill the troughs as often.
while we're at it, increasing the trough size of chicken coops & rabbit coops would be nice.
