Re: Game Development: My Log has Something to Tell You
The main problem with current combat system is that the ones who are spamming the moves that are less cooldown will be the only viable moves even if they add shitloads of new moves to the current combat and they will be always the winners and it will always come down to who's agility is better via gilds and no thinking/planning at all. Even if you put new attack/defence cards in the game which you can nomind spam it won't improve anything or you change the damage model or whatever I don't think that it can be fixed without introdoucing a completely new system, like the combat on the test server was.
Let's face it, they are going to bring back the good old combat, because some green nicknames dislike it. Some green nicknames disliked the new combat also, I didn't even like it so much, but it was definetly better than what we have right now and there are many ways to improve it. The "nostalgy" bullshit about the old combat is retarded too, when in almostly all aspects it was much superior combat system than the current one.
They just thought that spamming parry and punches is more dynamic PvE than the PvE in the new one is and the devs lacked brain to implement a proper PvE fighting system in addition to the new system. And used this as a excuse to not bring it live.APXEOLOG wrote:Yes, but does it matter if you can just nerf animals? Like give them weaker moves with less defense and damage. If client is only thing mattering for victory, yes. But I think to give some noob like me the client I will still lose to experience player. Relative weight of how much client and experience is mattering I do not know it.Hasta wrote:So, basically, whoever has access to the most advanced custom client for PvP, is the most skilled player.Ysh wrote: Fundamental disagreeing here is that I think use client modification is ''part of this game'' and fair as far as fights do go. If it is the case that better client = always win, it is your own folly to think this game is anything except programming challenge.

God you're so pathetic. You guys keep shittalking Legacy combat and when people come defending it with actual arguments you try to look like some bullied, beaten up victims. I don't even care how this whole discussion started (someone probably said something like "In Legacy combat this aspect was better..." and then the all knowing pseudo-psychologists and W3 players came here and started their whole "nostalgia" bullshit and basing their arguments on things that were true 5 years ago) but noone implies that Legacy veterans should have more impact on devs decision - but for sure people that use wrong arguments because they have no idea about the subject shouldn't be talking about it (in such a way) or proposing to change it.Hasta wrote: The actual point was to say people who use PvP-specific private custom clients and having objectively unfair advantage claim that they have somehow more "insight" on how "combat system should work", and shun everyone else's input.
It's not a discussion of skill, I don't know why it changed, probably because you guys felt like beaten dogs so started finding some ridiculous arguments to keep to the thought that we are wrong and somehow Legacy combat was objectively completely shit and you know all about it. I can be a psychologist too, you see. Definitely nostalgia of always being right as a kid in primary school in this case.
Combat system should be good, it doesn't have to be old.
Plus, for most of W7 most of my faction (me included) used a public client (Xcom) without any addons to it.

Please quote me shittalking Legacy combat or saying it was worse than the current system.Atamzsiktrop wrote: God you're so pathetic. You guys keep shittalking Legacy combat
You cling to the illusion someone here disagrees with the fact that both systems are flawed and legacy were more fun in PvP. Take a deep breath and re-read last few pages. And please keep insulting everyone who's disagreeing with you, and use all these clever demagogy 101 moves. This really brings up your best side.

You keep forgetting you're not the only one here bro.
You backed him up quite a bit. Do I take it as you didn't mean it was shit?Potjeh wrote:Every combat system Haven ever had was shit.

Consindering that you seem to put everyone that is not your opinion in the "wrong arguments" box, it's pretty implyig it.Atamzsiktrop wrote:[...] but noone implies that Legacy veterans should have more impact on devs decision - but for sure people that use wrong arguments because they have no idea about the subject shouldn't be talking about it (in such a way) or proposing to change it.
We could probably all agree on that one, but only because it is so vague.Combat system should be good, it doesn't have to be old.
I am pretty sure we have very different opinions on how we define "good".
If I get Ozzy correctly he liked timing a lot, yet that would favour people with better technical equipment (less lag, higher frame rates) and better clients (technical assistance; It's easier to hit someone in the right time when you know where he is heading). So for me that would be the quite the opposite of good.

How does that imply that the current system is better than legacy? They're all shit in their own special ways. Legacy was all about sploits, current is all about eternal stalemates.

You quoted my comment specifically, obviously, you were addressing it with yours.Atamzsiktrop wrote:You keep forgetting you're not the only one here bro.

Again, please attach quotations where exactly did I backed that particular comment about "every combat system being shit". You do know you're allowed to agree with some points a person makes and disagree/don't care about others?

It's not just the private clients that ruin it though, the private clients give a small minority of players specific advantages but all custom clients remove all possibility for players to make use of clever tricks that might have worked in the past. In W1 and W2 I heard it was much more prevalent but even in world 3 you could still come across players making use of the tall trees, rocks and houses to hide boats, containers and themselves. Can't do that now.Atamzsiktrop wrote: Plus, for most of W7 most of my faction (me included) used a public client (Xcom) without any addons to it.
Don't need to carry any light source or be worried about having trouble spotting someone or something in the dark because everyone has night vision.
Auto hearth, auto aggro, these things have all played a role in how the game has gotten to the point it is at now.
