Thanks for the work going into this. Even if everyone else is going to be an ass, know that you are appreciated, and your dedication to helping out with the development of the client.ElSid wrote:For all who uses Amber and came here to blame devs for breaking abandoned custom clients here is an update for you: viewtopic.php?f=49&t=40400&p=866834#p866834.

Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

You can't deny that the current source code of the client is a bit questionable by modern clean code etc. standards. But I think that there is a point to be made that if the client was enterprise-quality we probably wouldn't have the game at all. Geniuses often are wrongly understood in their time anyway. One also can't deny that loftar has done some impressive things regardless of the code quality.jorb wrote:This, also, I mean...strpk0 wrote:Plenty of games out there are heavily obfuscated and offer no source code, so all modders get is reverse engineering and cryptic machine-generated code to achieve what they want, and they do.
loftar has written an mmorpg server, dito client with back-end support for wrapping several gfx APIs, a full 3d engine, the http demon for the website, and a whole host of very elegant systems large and small to go with it. I mean...

We'll never know, I guess, but I do want to throw it out there for consideration.

So what is the reasoning for not including many of the features the custom clients have? If you know many (most) people prefer not the vanilla client why not make the vanilla client more robust? I get the argument of people making their own for freedom or whatever but I myself along with many other computer novices would prefer an actual official client to run instead of gambling with a third party. So why not make the vanilla client at least have the more basic things the other clients have. I mean surely mass transferring of items from inventory to cupboards can't break the immersion you are seeking...jorb wrote:If the point you're trying to make with the graph is that a lot of people were reliant on custom clients, then I have never denied that. I am well aware, and that is one of the reasons why we do try to support them, as I have pointed out to you repeatedly now.Enjoyment_2 wrote:prove this wrong:

It's time to get used to the default client. It's time to feel all the charm of the harsh world, laid down by the creators.

Re: Game Development: UI Scaling
I bet the overlap between people complaining that the default client sucks and should be better and people complaining that their custom clients are broken right now because jorb and loftar tried to make the default client better is pretty huge tbh.

Re: Game Development: UI Scaling
It always a huge issue. Whenever they break custom clients they hemorrhage players. Seems like modders are able to keep and maintain a solid set up without constant work so I can't see development time going toward birds and bees being more productive than spending some time hashing out a decent default client.
Like i like this game ALOT, and i support the heck out of it however i can but the fact that I have to go to a third party for something as simple but non trivial as mass moving things from inventories is ass backwards. I suspect there are a lot more casual newbs like myself than the elite who build there own client. The pay off for spending just a bit of time making the default client usable by a non negligible portion of the playerbase sounds like a no brainer. There was a recent update to the client yes, but that was like bringing the game from 1995 to the early 2000's it is still missing SO many things that would make the game fantastic.
I get that the only valued opinion here by jorbtar is the invertebrate without a life but really, listen to your playerbase we want a good default client we can count on. We may not play as much as others but we sure as shit support the game monetarily so it might be a decent idea to listen to us as well when we make logical points my dudes.

How? i am trying right now, I can't shift click or other click items into a cupboard of the same kind. In descending or ascending quality. Or at all. I can mass drop same items but can't move them? what even is that?Gensokyo wrote:This has been in the official client for a very long time now.pawnchito wrote:I mean surely mass transferring of items from inventory to cupboards can't break the immersion you are seeking...
also you can't remove more than 1 item at a time from a stockpile.
Like really the default client looks beautiful but then you want to play it but youll get carpel tunnel with all the damn clicking.
Please tell us more about how the default client is broken and useless af.
