Depends on the game. I'd played Wolfenstein 3D before, so did I REALLY need to read the manual for Doom?
HnH is an indie game with little connection to most other MMOs. You better believe that I read most of the important information that is posted on the TOP OF this website. It told me WHAT this game was, WHO the developers were, and WHY they implemented the game concepts.
Why do I read these things? I have discovered I'd rather spend 15-20 minutes reading information about the game (and running it through a bullshit filter) than spending two hours or more playing (and more if there's a sizable download) a game whose core concepts and design don't appeal to me.

I'm not. If he had posted this in the right forum, I might have taken a different tone about it. If he was actually asking a question, I might have taken a different tone. The way the OP read, he didn't like the fact that there were such harsh death penalties, which is clearly stated in those links at the top of the website. I don't know how many high level characters in Diablo I've lost to lag while playing hardcore. I don't write in to Blizzard asking for my character back because there's a clear label that death is permanent.
When an online game is laggy, common sense says "Don't engage in high risk activities." That would include swimming or fighting a bear hand to claw.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
