Claims on natural resources

Postby Granger » Thu Apr 27, 2017 11:47 am

Regarding viewtopic.php?p=736233#p736233 I suggest that natural resources should stop to enforce permissions of any claim covering them.

They also should also impose a hefty authority drain onto village claims covering them to discourage claiming them with villages (with or without walling them in additionally).

How does that stop the walls? People would gladly use theft alts to steal from them if they weren't walled off. Why not just make them drain Pclaim auth as well in a similar manner, rendering them effectively impossible to claim.

At least you can't directly pclaim them.

Problem with the whole thing is that it'll lead to villages built around them with a hole inside to isolate the resource from the village while claiming the walls around... So Loftar should revive the idea (which he shelved a while back) to disallow building village claims with holes in them to make this one feasible.

Ok, sure. But you have to admit that's at least a step in the right direction. A big circular village can't take up that many spawns, compared to right now where you can cheaply claim all of them.

I'd suggest w2-grade decay within a radius of X tiles from the natural ressource.
While this wouldn't make walling them in impossible, it would make it a lot harder to maintain.

I also like the auth-drain idea.

The discussion back then wasn't to limit villages to being circular, just to limit the topology of them to having one (and only one) continuous border (so it'll be impossible to build a circle with a hole in the middle). Granted, this has some problems (among others related to the ability to remove flags) - so the suggestion to have the natural resources emit W2 (=massive) decay (that additionally ignores claimes) with a reasonable range could be a solution to the problem.

Quickly draining nearby claims of authority (and let decay deal with walls) might be the easiest solution.

I suggest that all walls when trying to enclose a natural resource will fail to build the closing piece. Which will stop anyone from completely walling them in.

Agreed

Also this. But affect more than just walls... and maybe 200 times normal decay rate

my one char currently keeps up a village with 900k auth.
The drain should be retarded like. 300k a day IMO

Reduced quality of the resource if there is a nearby claim?
Excuse me, I don't speak English.
