Maybe it is your experience that determines your perspective (a natural thing and not a slam). Of the 1000 mmos out there, how many and for how long have you played/investigated? If you think "Wyrd/rituals", using magic spells and pseudo-mythological constructs to gain xp/skill prchase points is "unique" then you haven't played many. (Or should I say the right ones to have seen it before). Your elusion to the point pool construct for advancement in skills/skill level as being "unoriginal" is moot, because actually what it is is called "Comfortable". H&H is not unique JUST because of this or that certain element, it is UNIQUE because of the total package.
Trying to deconstruct H&H into specific elements to determine what should be remved because "It's like another game" is NOT the point. There is a line in any game in which base mechanics found confortable by gamers in most mmos do NOT detract from a game's uniqueness...H&H does have some comfortable/familiar gaming elements common to most MMOS because they have been found over time and experience to provide the best BASE foundation for certain MMO gaming atmospheres. It is when a game crosses that line and uses ALL of the common elements AND adds elements found in other (what some may call higher quality graphical games) that the games itself becomes moot because everything in it can be found elsewhere AND at higher graphical/developemental quality.
So lets take for example you had ?your way? and tele, lp, ect,ect were removed and Wyrd put into place (and the other elements bantered about such as quests). Why would anyone play? I can get the graphics I like (2d overhead) from Ragnarok and Atlantica, I can get rich crafting system from Ragnarok and Atlantica, I can get magic /ritual based gameplay from Wizards 101, Phoenix Dynasty (Which by the way has not only a ritualistic system but also a ritualistic based crafting system) and Runes Of Magic as well, I can get free world sandbox (boring as hell and space econimic oriented as it may be) from EVE. The examples can go on and on and on.
BUT, as it stands right now, there is Nowhere to find the complete foundational package of H&H in any MMO I've ever played or investigated (and that's in the 100's) Many of the "radical changes" they have posted about (not talking about the domestication and expansionist ideas on current game mechanics) are alraeady present in other games which therefore detracts from the uniqeness of H&H. That's all I was trying to say and why I agree with the OP of this thread. The game, if implemented as stated in the dev threads would not be the unique H&H game it is now. and t some, that would be a shame and they have the right to say so, just as you have the right to say, you wouldnt care and would be fine with it.
