Lol... i almost ragequit just after the new map started. I had a little nucleus of a camp built up after a week, but there was a minor thief who kept stealing odds and ends from me. I had the bright idea one night to try to block my doorway with a chair so i could store my valuables inside and not get murdered while asleep.... Oh, lordy, lemme tell ya, that didn't work at all.

I woke up in my spruce bough mat, inside an empty cabin [cue twilight zone theme song]. When I tried to go outside, my ENTIRE camp was ransacked, and everything that could be lifted (every, single blessed thing, not even exaggerating) was emptied out and stacked up in front of my door. I ported to hearth, but it was just a lost cause at that point.

Needless to say, at the time I was fuming with rage.

In retrospect, it's probably the most hillarious thing that's ever happened to me in the game. And the spot I relocated to is even better than where I was (no metal in sight, but oh well...) So don't butthurt-ragequit when you get griefed. Take a break, simmer down, and start over, and you'll be glad you did.

That's my little story :) thanks for listening. And to whoever did that.... well played....

Thats maybe a good advice for if you solo a small camp.
It plain sucks if all you had left to do is a wall, and a village of 15+ gets murdered just like that.

Doing the same things all over expecting different results does not seem funny to me. Little git actually helped me to see that this is not for me atm. I fully understand what jorb is trying to accomplish. Its not easy at all. Hoping also that he is not a disguised sadist, but a gifted developer who will find proper balance on the way.

Thanks for sharing your story :)

And let me tell you who did it.. (those who dont like stories can skip altogether now)

Two days after I got ranging skill I found some benign trespassing scents on my claim. Guy who did it was even bigger newbie than I am, so I found him without problems. He was with a bunch of players who also started playing recently. We were talking politely and agreed that neither one of us wants any trouble. As a sign of good neighbor relations I gave them all types of seeds they lacked. Everything was great. Week or two have passed. While scouting the area for better soil I noticed that my other neighbor's winery palisade has decayed and broken. For some reason my tracking was on. And I had what to see aside few broken sections of palisade. Winery claim was still on and place was chock-full of scents. Claim allowed me to collect only thieving scents on its periphery. I tracked only out of curiosity this time. Again, it was the same guy. Ill skip his name as I still believe that rules are to blame. I went to him. We again talked politely and he tried to explain me that he is observing that winery for some time and that he thinks its abandoned, so he took what he liked. My first thought was possibility that he also tracks my claim in the same way and will rob it as soon as he interprets state of my claim as abandoned. Thats not cool. I tried to warn him about possibility to be summoned and killed for thievery scents. I said few times that I am not violent and I am not threatening him. On the end of our last conversation he sent small shivers down my spine by cunningly asking which claim was actually mine and commenting how nice place that is. And I almost knew it. That was the first time I went to bed with some stuff I could but didnt want to lose. When I logged next day (after some 14-16 hours) my place was robbed. Cunning as he is, this time he didnt do it himself but asked his wanna-be rogue friend to teach me a lesson. I had some problem to track this guy as he pumped his stealth and lives away from river. But I found him. Its a cute rogue camp with a palisade closely following a ledge, with a cave inside palisade. One of my friends, well known veteran of HH generously offered to kill him for me if I bring down the wall. I thought about it for few hours and decided that I will not be coerced to play by rules of thieves and thugs. I dont have time to play cat and mice nor I will build fort Knox with shaved trees in 20 tile perimeter out of my humble river farm only to be somewhat safer from any bored kid that comes online.
Thats my story. I am grateful to all people who offered help.

I guess defending yourself is too high a cost for living.

Really, if you can't be bothered to protect your stuff, why should anyone else care?

If anybody stole my shit, I'd track them down, not let them explain, and murder them outright.

It depends what defense is in a simplified and completely deterministic virtual world.

You got my message rightfully wrong. I indeed began this thread with emotional outcry that overshadowed my message and observation. Chakraventi got somewhat close in his interpretation in this post.
But I did say, even in that first post, that I am not asking for anyones help (sympathy included, tho unwritten).

I pondered heavily about issues that I would like changed. And I have something as solution on my mind.
To make things even more exciting but yet acceptable and balanced. Hopefully, others will like it too.
