Prospecting, am I doing it right?

So I was lucky enough and got 2 Rustroots. I made and extract now I wanted to find a mine. I read wikia so I just went to a random place near my camp and started prostecting. It said that no minerals were found. Does that mean there are no mines in those 1000 tiles? And does it change something if I am full nature? Does that affect my chances of finding mines?

There's nothing within 1000 tiles of the tile on which you prospected. Prospecting always detects all undeveloped mine spots.

Peculiar thing I noticed; I recently found a mine and the whole %/tile thing seemed off to me. I was directly east of the spot at about 90%, but when my char walked over to place the building site it was way further than 10 tiles. I'd say at least 20. Is this normal?

1000 in each direction is whats checked

so if you are 10% away thats 100 tiles, not 10;)
