Re: How To Make Currency Work
Coins would only be useful if its made by a major city. If its a village making coins, if the village dies the people are stuck with useless coins. Also the coins would not be useful outside the village as other people won't know about it and will not accept it for their goods.

As I said in my earlier post. Major cities arent needed to make coins work, they can only prevent inflation. All coins need are a fixed ingame value.peri wrote:Coins would only be useful if its made by a major city. If its a village making coins, if the village dies the people are stuck with useless coins. Just look at any other mmo games such as runescape; it doesn't have any major city controlling the distribution of coins but everyone uses coins all the time.
But at the same time inflation changes all the time in runescape, armour prices are never stable but stable enough for a decent economy.

Coins for ancestors is a bit ridiculous, although tradition needs more use. The new prayers are very very helpful for now.Brickbreaker wrote:As I said in my earlier post. It can happen without a major city, it just won't.

Re: How To Make Currency Work
The problem is that simply isn't enough use for crap q metal. If coins could always be converted to something you need, it'd work. That, or if a group of villages guaranteed for coins with an assortment of useful goods. But to do that, they'd have to be able to control the amount of coins in circulation.

Re: How To Make Currency Work
Even a simple two-way system would help this form of trade quite a bit.
Right now all I can do is use coins to buy things, I'd like to be able to buy coins WITH things at a stall it'd solve a lot of problems.
Use a better type of coin for circulation instead of shitty q10 copper coins and you might get somewhere too. Steel is a good example, someone can do it but it requires :effort: to bother, quite a bit. q50+ steel for example might be seen as 'wasted' on such an effort but would work.
Stand 1: Buy bricks any Q "1 coin per 5"
Stand 2: sell metal tools for X coins.
If we had even just this I'd be less reluctant to setup various stands across the world.

Can't we turn coins into nuggets?
Throughout the centuries there were men who took first steps, down new roads, armed with nothing but their own vision.

From my understanding:JustasJ wrote:Can't we turn coins into nuggets?
Bars->Coins
Coins->Nuggets
Coins->Bars
Coins cannot be made of Nuggets, but can be turned into Nuggets.
According to the wiki.

No, coins can be converted to and from both nuggets and bars.

I rejoice in this, and I also go to edit the wiki.Potjeh wrote:No, coins can be converted to and from both nuggets and bars.

Re: How To Make Currency Work
the truth is that money has two values: real and monetary. real value for money is usually pretty low. (for instance, real life paper money is worthless). coins have a higher real value, but it is still pretty low. monetary value is whatever the people in charge of the money say it is. unless you have something with a high real value to back up your money, it is useless to outsiders. there are several things that are needed for in-game currency, and most of them have been mentioned already.
i think a fixed value for coins would be a good thing to jump start it. take quality out of the equation for coins, and then have have each type of coin have a fixed value. examples: tin=1, copper=5, bronze=10, etc. it wouldn't be perfect, but it would be a nice jump-start. and then at a stalls when you assign a cost, instead of picking a type and number of coins you would just a pick a cost, and then they would have to give a combination of coins that equaled the cost. admittedly you might only want one type of coin to add to your metal stores, but you can use what you get for trades. you will still need a solid base for coins, but set value would help.
