Reasoning, if you spar with armor and real weapondry in real life, your armor is going to get damaged, you just don't plan on killing each other.
I am pretty sure nobody ever said that. Do you have a link or quote?
I actually searched these forums for 'spar' and 'sparr' and didn't find anything so I doubt the topic came up before.
The reason I actually posted was because I used the skill Seize the Day! fr the first time and noticed it had a really neat animation
Well while I am fairly certain that there was a similar topic to this one before, I doubt that the devs were opposing this idea because of a stupid realism argument.
I admit it's a bit of a tricky situation. Part of practicing PvP is getting a feel for how your armor holds up to the damage you'll actually sustain, and how your damage is against armored enemies. Otherwise just sparring sans armor would work fine. So the system would have to do the damage, without damaging the armor. I considered saying they could just add weapons that have a similar armor penentration ability to a sling (aka none), but this doesn't allow for any accurate level of gauging combat, as no damage would be done. It'd be better than nothing (at least they could practice balancing and countering the various stats to gain the upper hand), but not ideal.

That.

I do feel it's tricky but I still think it's a bit too painful for the non-mine owners to have to blow several sets (and it will be several sets if their melee stats are anything near worthwhile) of armor per person just to be capable of defending themselves.
You guys have said you specifically designed the game to make being unarmored a really stupid idea. Melee and even ranged rip through unarmored hearthlings like the sun through butter at ten paces. They have to have armor, and they have to learn to use it. Significant leather armor is a step up, but unfortunately with the current way the game is set up (in that there's only ever any good armor for the chest slot) nothing is ever going to stack up to metal unless you can get a full set of it.

Metal needs to have more costs if anything. As it stands now you can get maybe 10~20 chests of bricks from someone who doesn't have metal and wants cast, after that feh good luck.
There's no metal legs, so everyone will end up using the best leather pants anyway. :/
You can destroy items like ranger boots and leather pants easily in 10 spars. I don't think it's reasonable to have soak+deflect values way north of 1k and not really being able to practice pvp'ing against someone with such equipment because it's so expensive. There's not much skill required to kill someone with 400 soak/deflect, using a spare bronze plate to spar has never been the issue. It's about the other items like the HQ leather pants/boots/hat

Making more of those isn't really an issue too, it may be annoying, but it's not really an issue.
