Been meaning to post this for a while now:
I have a fairly sizeable livestock pen, subdevided into multiple sections. It is pretty clear that animals 'decide' to feed from troughs in some or other sequence of when food troughs were placed into position or something similar, as they will consistantly finish one trough completely before moving onto the next. Whichever way it is, it is definitely, not 'eat from the nearest trough from current position' per animal as in my opinion it should be.
"Big deal" prolly comes to mind now and I would agree if it wasn't that I suspect the following:
My livestock have never ever been without at least one food trough comfortably covering the entire area they are able to move around in. However, the food trough that they currently decided to eat from might not cover the entire area. Even though there is always food, my animals definitely do not always have full health bars, as they should imo, since I make the effort to provide an environment for perfect health. This means that I'm always penalised a couple of quality points when butchering the animals that I have worked to raise with perfect health.
Soooo, would you be so kind as to change it so that each animal will feed from the trough closest to his position at the time the ticker hits?

My sheep lost 50% of their starvation bar this way, I think. Posted it in bug reports, but got no reply.
It seems animals always choose to eat the trough with highest quality fodder first.

Well, that would be another reason why it sucks, since you don't want to wait for them to eventually eat from the low q trough so that you can up the quality and you most certainly don't want them to always eat from the lowest q either. Also for a bit of realism it should be from the closest trough to each animal.martinuzz wrote:My sheep lost 50% of their starvation bar this way, I think. Posted it in bug reports, but got no reply.

I've heard this as well, however I've had them eat from two troughs (they were both full, now at 1/4 and 1/5) that are my medium quality troughs. I can't figure this crap out at all. I have about 5 q100 +troughs, 4 q50~60 troughs and 1 q70 trough. They ate all the other q70~80troughs, and are eating the q50~60 troughs...martinuzz wrote:My sheep lost 50% of their starvation bar this way, I think. Posted it in bug reports, but got no reply.

All the troughs reach all the cows, and the ones they're eating from aren't the closest ones at all

My cows always seem to eat from west to east in troughs and my calves start with n-w cow and go east from there.

I can confirm the calves feeding thing
edit: I used to have my milk barrels to the NW of my cowpen. Good times.

I had a look at my sheep's stats and they were indeed much worse than the other livestock, not quite 50%, but crap. They are not kept with my cattle and have always had plenty food.martinuzz wrote:My sheep lost 50% of their starvation bar this way, I think. Posted it in bug reports, but got no reply.
