I don't know if anyone remembers this children's story. There are many variations but it's a story about cooperation, especially amid scarcity.
" Some travelers come to a village, carrying nothing more than an empty pot. Upon their arrival, the villagers are unwilling to share any of their food stores with the hungry travelers. The travelers fill the pot with water, drop a large stone in it, and place it over a fire in the village square. One of the villagers becomes curious and asks what they are doing. The travelers answer that they are making "stone soup", which tastes wonderful, although it still needs a little bit of garnish to improve the flavor, which they are missing. The villager doesn't mind parting with just a little bit of flour to help them out, so it gets added to the soup. Another villager walks by, inquiring about the pot, and the travelers again mention their stone soup which hasn't reached its full potential yet. The villager hands them a little bit of seasoning to help them out. More and more villagers walk by, each adding another ingredient. Finally, a delicious and nourishing pot of soup is enjoyed by all. "
This gave me the idea for Stone Soup and bowls.
Lets start with bowls. There are different types of bowls that can be made with different materials. The material that is harder to get will make a better bowl. From easiest to hardest:
Stone Bowl
Requires a stone and holds .1 liter
Wooden Bowl
Requires a block of wood and holds .2 liter
Ceramic Bowl
Requires bone clay and holds .3 liter
Metal Bowl (Any metal makes respective bowl i.e. tin, silver, gold, etc. Perhaps gold and silver bowls can give a bonus to fep eaten out of it)
Requires any metal and holds .5 liter
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And now for the food that requires a bowl to eat. Stone Soup.
Stone Soup will require boiling water to make. Ingredients should be everything that can be grown. 1 or two of each item. Onions, Carrots, Beets, etc. It follows along with the story that every villager that came by inquiring about the soup added something to it. The main ingredient of course being a stone.
The FEP gained from eating the soup should be a few points toward every stat.

Nice idea.
Mabye the FEP given could orientate on inserted ingredients, but in a way that you can't cook up a to specialized food?

I loved the story as a child, and soup is always cool anyway.

Re: Stone Soup Recipe & Bowls
I would love to add something like this, of course; along with other kinds of more generic cooking. The main problem (for soups in general) is, again, the substance system.
It should be mentioned that I'm currently trying to rethink substances as part of implementing the new object system, though.

Make it take generic Objects so we can throw Frames, Strings, JPanels in it.

Re: Stone Soup Recipe & Bowls
Good idea. I like meh soup.
Ba-ba-ba-ba, possible ingredient combination formulas
( ( (Ingredient FEPs / 10 ) + total amount of FEPs ) / ( waterQ / 10 ) ) / ( bowl amount here ) = FEP gained per bowl
( ( (Ingredient hunger restoration totals / 10 ) + hunger restoration totals ) / (waterQ / 10 ) ) / ( bowl amount here ) rounded up to the nearest multiple of ten = hunger restored per bowl
average Q of everything put into soup = Q of soup
( in case you're having trouble with my lingo, "ingredient hunger restoration totals" is the amount of hunger all ingredients restore )
For example, Doublecarrot Soup with all Q10 ingredients would give 2.2 of PER FEP and restore 30 hunger.
And Cave Cheddar Soup (cave cheddar x1 + curd) with Q10 would give 23.1 STR FEP and restore 90 hunger.

Re: Stone Soup Recipe & Bowls
I'd rather see some kind of algorithm that semi-randomizes the FEP gains from a recipie. The inggredients would determine the FEPs, the proportions would determine the relative values. Now it shouldn't be a direct relationship and there should be a limit on the number of ingredients obviously. Making soup should be a real trial and error process while we map out all the differnt possible ingredients for all the different soup recipies. Quality should be a standard multiplier and not affect the recipie (and it shouldn't affect fishing either incidentally).

this. some ingredients should act as modifiers and multipliers for the fep of other ingredients (this is how to make the whole dynamic crafting system work imo), for example, some items could amplify other items (probably the "main" ingredient), some items could change the fep of other items, and some items could grant a bonus unrelated fep from certain combinations.Chakravanti wrote:I'd rather see some kind of algorithm that semi-randomizes the FEP gains from a recipie.
