Hermits
I'm just curious as to everyone's take on Hermits. (People who live ONLY by themselves) I myself am a Hermit because I've read a lot of things on the forums that basically have led me to trust no one. I'm just curious what you all think about them in terms of Survival, etc.

Re: Hermits
I guess i didn't really hermit but i lived with my brother by ourselves on world 2 basically... after awhile you kinda want to interact with people... We joined a village mostly to talk to people and stuff. kinda loose the will to play when all you do is harvest crops and never see another sole.
I kinda think you miss half the game by not being involved in village politics. If you hermit you will most likely never PvP, never have high q stuff other then crops and lack most metals (or all metal)
It is still possible to Hermit while being in a village. I still live with my brother on my own plot away from our village. I trust my village members but even if they were not trustworthy they could not touch my stuff anyway... If your a hermit you would probably like the way our village is setup.

Re: Hermits
Hmm...Well I've been playing for about a week. So I'd say q15 crops aren't THAT bad for a week. I make it fine on my own. In terms of survival. The only pain in the ass at the moment, is building a Kiln by yourself. It's VERY time consuming.

Re: Hermits
I used to be a hermit, Well otehr people were near, but I hardly ever even talked to them. I lived somewhere across the river from Soviet Russia. I committed suicide eventually. I wanted to go back and join my friends. The hermit life isn't fun to me. Now I play with three of my best friends. I don't like to be in a big village, but two or three people is fun to play with. Maybe you should get some (1-2) other people to come play with you. they could protect you or have trade routes set up. But now that you have posted this topic, people might just join you to take your shit and dissappoint you. So what I'm saying is it's just a 50-50 chance of having good or bad people. Just take a chance, not all people are bad. Most people I've met we're really cool and helpful. So if you want someone to live by you, you might wanna pm them and make sure they aren't a greifer or raider. (maybe even a PKer o.O)
Well that's about all I have to offer. Unless you'd like to join me and my friends.
Thanks for reading.

Re: Hermits
I used to be a hermit in W2 too - that is, until lots and lots of people started spawning on me and the area got super-populated...
Basically, it's the best way to get acquainted with HnH (without getting on peoples' nerves, that is). Also, I found it rewarding to find out much on my own. Punching a bugged deer for half an hour without even hitting it, ah, the good old times...
Being a hermit ended for me when the need for iron started to get in the way of character development (eating wursts, forging armors FTW!). Ofcourse the possibility of building a brickwall was a nice addition (TODAY I know, it should've been priority #1). Then our village and alliance grew, one of us found silver, I started a jewelcrafting alt, and the rest is history...
...well, then there's that part of everyone but me leaving the game. That won't happen in my current village, though, I'm quite sure of that
All in all, being in a community often is more fun than sitting alone in the woods, harvesting the same crops over and over again. But for beginners, I recommend they stick to Mordor wilderness and try their best to survive on their own without any infrastructure. The gaming experience is worth it.
P.S. Go explore your area for mudflat/waterside clay nodes. Making a q10 kiln is nothing short of masochism.

Difficulty wise, it's not so bad because you can trade for anything you need, but you can't buy village chat. Sure, there's public IRC, but it's just not that cosy.

Re: Hermits
There's no one even in my remote area. I've traveled out at least 4-5 screens, grids, w/e in each direction. The only settlements I found were 2 abandoned Timber Houses with some crops. I'm in the middle of nowhere, lol.

If you could punch people through the internet, there'd be a lot less stupid shit happening. (maybe so little that people could actually TRUST people on the internet)

Re: Hermits
I don't understand people that play online games single player style. All in all hermits are useless.
