Plowed tiles stay if under crops

Post by Machenoid »

To reduce needless tedium and the chance of serious repetative strain injury, i suggest that plowed tiles should STAY plowed if they have a farmable crop (any of them) on top of them. Have you ever seen a patch of farm land turn into grass? No, because the crops block the sunlight and growth of other plants beneath them. Increase the stamina cost of harvesting to "compensate" for not having to plow the tile again if it'd be considered necessary. It'd greatly increase the survivability of plows by not having to abuse them so much for the little dribble of shit the random number generator throws at you. It'd also stop the minimap of the farm area from looking like it was made by an incompetent dumbass on LSD (and maybe ease server load by not having to change map data so randomly)

And while on the subject of hand-plowing, would it be possible to just make it do a check before it gets used and only cost the 25% when it finishes, to prevent the "oops i hand-plowed the wrong tile and now i can't plow the tile i wanted because my stamina is under 55% and if i plow a third time i'll get dropped to 30% without a plowed tile to show for it"
The Dwarf is making a plaintive gesture. He doesn't really care about anything any more.

please god let this happen. i am so tired of having to replow my fields because the tiles beneath them return to their original state.

As tedious as it is, plows would become pretty useless with this and they are a great metal sink, thus encouraging trade.
Also I think it was Potjeh who explained in a similar thread why it is still necessary to plow land where crops were planted, if you have to pull the realism argument.

i dont think this alone would make plows useless. you would still need them for making roads, making new fields, etc.

To explain this answer to newer characters: repeated hand plow of the same tile + drinking low-q water is currently abused to generate hunger, with the result that good organized villages can stuff insane amounts of food into single characters (certainly while feasting on high-q tables laid out by a toon who already digested several times their weight in cavebulbs), leading to toons with insane stats.

So i would say: yes, do this.

This isn't the problem to why this happens, in fact no one with a godly table would do this, you'd run out of food too fast, as it stands witha 'decent' table you can eat 3~4 cupboards of food in a sitting, do you think anyone has the time to make that much food and eat it every 2 hours? Becuse that's how fast you can handplow down to 50% (starving), around 2 hours.

With tables this isn't needed, all it does is allow people without tables who want to grind stats to do it, anyone with tables will have the ability to NPNG, go about their normal chores, and that's it.

However, I do start new chars as hermits sometimes, and this will hurt them severely... :|

I like the behaviour as it is. In real time it really does not turn into grassland, but weed starts to spread as well. You have to plow your farm in RLT after you get down the crops. You have to get rid of old roots from cutted straw, plow in some fertilizers and so on. So please keep it the way it is and just get yourself a metal plow and some iron to repair it. I am farmin two farms 1000+ tiles in total and you wont hear no complaints from me... except: COULD THE SHIFT CLICK take always the best seed please???? (But that is off-topic here, sorry for that).

BTW: I do have crops in RLT and I do grow and replant much of them, so I know waddam talking ´bout
"That is not dead which can eternal lie / And with strange aeons even death may die."
