... and why the hell are we talking about beehives?!?!!? Start another thread dudes, i don't wanna see the OP's fishpond idea get derailed.

Re: The birds, the bees, the fishies.
You're right encephalon, there's a whole ecological interplay in a properly inhabited pond that keeps the water healthy (snails are good too! I only say that on the off chance that we can get snails in game
), but I sure as hell wouldn't want to cook with or drink anything out of my fishpond or aquarium regardless
. Just because the water is relatively clean, doesn't mean it's potable. But there's absolutely nothing wrong with ignoring RL arguments in game mechanics though (tele-feeding cows?), so whatever. Anyways, I'm not saying i wouldn't LOVE a way to get higher water Q, it just feels like the devs won't do it for balance reasons, but i could be wrong. The only way would be if it's a very small amount of high Q water you can get at a time. If they're loath to give us small, unsteady sources of metal outside of trading, they probably would feel the same way about hiqh q water as well.

LOL! Sorry, i took the title to mean like "the birds and the bees", as in breeding, reproduction, facts-of-life... not literally talking about bees in game
Regardless, those beehive ideas do deserve their own thread in their own right.

I like the idea of more player controlled terraforming.
I've always wanted my own finger of jorb. The video game adaptation, not the dev's actual digit.

Well this idea is good, but it needs some balance i think b4 implementing. Because if everyone will have their small pond- fisherman will dissapear.
As for water ql increasing idea: I was thinking about something like this but from totally different angle.
From ancient times alchemists used distillers. Why we can't build here one for ourselvs?
EX:
Requirments: 4 bars of bronse iron or steel, 10 pices of glass, 2 ropes. Skils related-metla working, cooking.
How it works. You fill the equipment with water(any ql, it can hold up to 25 l) and fuel(coal, about 3 of them). Then, after you ignite it, 15 min(irl) must pass. And you can get 1bucket (10l) of water ql 80-100. Thus cooks will have some water to make good doughs and it takes too much time and effot to produce vast amounts of water. So natural high ql waterspots still will be needed (as it takes much time to make some) and still, even if you can't find a place-you can get some water for your (ex:cooking) needs.

Re: The birds, the bees, the fishies.
Ponds should NOT always breed fish, but possibly raise the quality of such fish by "raising them". Breeding (or called spawning) should be a rare occurrence and only if certain conditions are met, like having a certain number of fishes in the pond. Of course, there is also risks. Fishes can die off just as easily if you don't tend to the pond effectively and in a timely manner, when one fish dies, they all die (it messes up the water). Maybe as a possible safety feature, you can take out fish corpses from such ponds.

Okay, I didn't exactly know that. Live and learn.Encephalon wrote:A fishes' digestive system is one of the major causes for fresh water being fresh, not merely the minerals scathed from the rocks due to corrosion.
The microbes in water are typically dangerous to human beings, fish deal with that as they pass river water through their system. It is the healthiest natural water to drink aside from glacier water, and I promise you - glacier water is a huge fucking gamble, it's only a matter of time before a sheet of glacier ice melts that contains vast amounts of to that moment hibernating disease and bacteria that has been dormant for thousands of years.
That aside.. Yes, fish purify water by digestive and consuming the microbes. But like I said, this can not work unless new water is added as one type of bacteria becomes dominant and then a childs' goldfish goes belly up when the water tank goes a mystery shade.
Still, it's stagnant water - at the very least, there's probably algae in there, and whatever crap ends up there will accumulate instead of being diffused to a safe concentration and washing downstream. It will definitely be better for watering plants, but you wouldn't drink it or cook with it, and you'll still have some doubts after boiling it. Giving water two quality levels would overcomplicate things.
