I was told (by a moderator) that when grass was introduced trees actively (After full growth) spread an area of forest around them.
I've left a tree for months and it didn't do JACK SQUAT! I've noticed that they preserve a 21x21 area of forest around them, but they don't spread nothing, zilch, zip, nada.
So with that said, please let this happen, the grass is friggin' killer to trees and a proper tree plot doesn't work well if we can't revert these changes.

Yeah, these preserved squares are weird to see, it's as if nature is slowly turning into a chessboard.DatOneGuy wrote:I've noticed that they preserve a 21x21 area of forest around them, but they don't spread nothing, zilch, zip, nada.
Otherwise, yes, I'd like to see the tree-terrain spread from established trees too since they are supposed to be the tangly root system and underbrush or something anyway.

As we`re talking about terraforming, what about changing another terraforming system?
Clearcutted zones have ugly points of grass. Grasslands have ugly points of moor. May this get changed?

I guess it will be difficult since grassland also spread. If forest spreads over a tile, the surrounding grassland will do the same, is like one step forward, one step backward. One of them have to be priority to avoid this situation.

Re: Tree terraforming!
What if the tile is more then 6 tiles away from any tree, then it goes grass, and if it`s closer it goes forest?

I don't want my lawn turning into forest just because I have a couple of trees there. If you want to terraform, plant new trees.

Once a man has changed the relationship between himself and his environment, he cannot return to the blissful ignorance he left. Motion, of necessity, involves a change in perspective.

Re: Tree terraforming!
The whole point is that the logic behind stuff turning to grass was that "Roots and shit are gone", and the reason you can't 'plant forest' is that "Roots and shit are needed", yeah trees originally plant roots and stuff when put down, but they also to continue to do it as they age, so yeah.
So there's the realism pointo f the view, now the game point of view, I shouldn't have to put trees down for months ingame (I tried for a month and never fully got my old area to forest) to get a tree plot, it's a pain.
As for your problem with wanting trees and not turning to forest that's simple, like it does now it can stop at pavement, for some reason if you have pavement around the tree even while growing it doesn't seem to terraform at all, not even the tile it started on.
Tree should have priority over grassland. Forest turns to grassland in the abscence of trees. Grassland turns to moor in the absence of trees. Moor turns to Heath in the abscence of trees.
They kinda work fine as is, since if a tree is there it won't spread to grassland->moor->heath anyway.

Trees should just generate solid forest as they grow instead of the current patchwork.

Re: Tree terraforming!
That also sounds good, between doing that and keeping it at bay that's more than enough. The reason I wanted continuous was just to terraform and then keep it away.

Mmm, My perfect grassed tree garden seems to have developed some forest patches.
