Then go further. Find someone on the forums or IRC and meet up with them. If you really want metal, you should be willing to travel a SG or two to get itPaladir wrote:What I meant was that nobody near my settlement has metal.

Re: A way to get metal without a mine/trading
Gauze is a lifesaver because the only alternative is dangerous (if you're low enough). Metal is a luxury resource used for improving things and saving time. You don't need metal to plow- metal just makes it faster. You don't need metal to build a house, but it will give an existing one a bit of extra room, and so on.
So yeah. Trade for it if you want the later-game metal upgrades before you have your own mine.
I don't understand why people are so afraid of trading/socializing in an MMO.

lol sabitani's humor is always subtle =P
But if you have a nearby village or your own village idol, I have a character that is specialized in trading through village warping regardless where you are located in the world. There are plenty of traders that can also village hop to trade and village hop back =P you just not looking or asking the right people

Re: A way to get metal without a mine/trading
I am a traveling trader in every game I play, but in this one, its not worth it, I walked to 1 village, and asked if I could trade for metal, suddenly 5 guys in necromancer robes and bandit masks pop into existence, with bows, I hearth. I try the next village, suddenly 5 guys pop into existence with the standard armor, I hearth. You wonder why I don't trade with anyone but hermits, I have gone to every town on my super grid and have been shot at, charged at, and not a single piece of metal traded for, all the rivers are blocked with claims that only are 5xjust enough to block the full river. My first piece of metal was gained from a guy who was stealing from me and I killed. I trade with my other hermit allies, traveling from 1 corner of the super grid, to the other. I also have to pass through a village that cuts the grid in half, there needs to be limits to the size of a village, its killed 5 of my trade partners, outright declaiming their land and killing them. I have a nice graveyard near my base too, 38 skeletons and counting, wish we could raise them with necromancy or salvage the bones. I still don't have that much metal to use.barra wrote:Gauze is a lifesaver because the only alternative is dangerous (if you're low enough). Your only participation on the forums is reviving an old post from over a year ago.

Re: A way to get metal without a mine/trading
Because we're all apeshit paranoid, that's why. Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE that means you harm has at least thought of posing as a noob one in their life, or you never know if the new guy is a double agent, and the RUA has created an atmosphere of fear where if you don't know some Cyrillic, death comes swift. Hell, now these days, some people will kill you just because they can, just aggro and stab, nary a word spoken. So, when you ask why we are afraid of socializing in an MMO, it's because we want to LIVE!!!barra wrote:I don't understand why people are so afraid of trading/socializing in an MMO.
I, on the other hand, will not kill you (namely because I don't like doing what the 'cool kids' do [kill anything that looks like a hearthling], and also because I wouldn't know how to even I wanted to, and I'm a W3 vet).
