Thanks spectacle for clearing up what I meant by permadeath.
For my point on comparisons, you didn't quite get what I was trying to say. Comparisons that are on a similar level with the original case considering their impact is fine. Pulling out way more serious stuff than the argument you are trying to back up is not really comparing anymore, but mere polemic.

I understand that "permadeath" is a huge draw of this game. I get it. But it's not Jesus, you can stop praying to it at night. Characters have been revived before, it really isn't the first time, so don't act like it is.burgingham wrote:2. Permadeath

I see, i can accept that, although I can't really think of a diff example to use. Anyway we might just have to agree to disagree, not the first time in historyburgingham wrote:Thanks spectacle for clearing up what I meant by permadeath.

Gaining illegal entry into somebody else's computer is the crime part. If you break into somebody's house and just steal a toothbrush, it's still burglary and you'll do jail time (or community work, if it's a lenient judge).RickyP0602 wrote:I can see someone calling into the local police station, MY WOW ACCOUNT WAS HACKED HALP... lolzPotjeh wrote:Hacking is a RL crime and needs to be dealt with by RL police.

We can go through this again and again. Serious (serverside) bugs aka something the devs caused should be reason for ressurection. Random stories some anonymous persons are pulling out of their asses should not.Spiff wrote:I understand that "permadeath" is a huge draw of this game. I get it. I agree. But you (or at the very least, others in this thread) have put "permadeath" on this podium as an untouchable object, never to be questioned. And it's not.burgingham wrote:We can go through this again and again. Serious (serverside) bugs aka something the devs caused should be reason for ressurection. I completely understand if you want to say it sets a bad precedent, blah blah blah. That's fine, understandable. But to anybody that says that having your account stolen and your character killed is "chill", that's simply laughable.

While this might be the way life should work, life will not work that way 99% of the time. The interwebs can be a difficult place to navigate, especially if someone knows what they are doing, 99% of the time police will lul at you and nothing will happen.Potjeh wrote:Gaining illegal entry into somebody else's computer is the crime part. Random stories some anonymous persons are pulling out of their asses? So what your saying is that no character in hnh will ever be legitimately compromised? again this goes back to the punishing of a set of people so you can be sure some fuckers don't take advantage of a system in place to help. I agree that someone shouldn't be able to just go on a killing spree and have their chara ressed, but i also think that if someone hacks my account and my character gets killed I am going to be pissed, and would like to get it back, since it wasn't my actions that got my character killed. I guess it's a hard call to make, if you account was hacked though, and someone killed your character, i'd bet money you'd be sending pm's to the dev asking for a res, as would most everyone.burgingham wrote:We can go through this again and again. Well I just told sabinati the same thing. I would act completely like rage if I were the one killed and quit. I would totally throw in every argument I have to get him back if he was my smith. No matter how weak those arguemtns would be. Also I would be raging about the devs for days. I am glad that in this case I can advance the view I really believe in.Spiff wrote:I completely understand if you want to say it sets a bad precedent, blah blah blah. That's fine, understandable. No, that is not what I said.RickyP0602 wrote:So what your saying is that no character in hnh will ever be legitimately compromised?

Re: Since when do the devs do resurections on request?
It takes an epic hacker to hack somebody without any trace whatsoever. Most hackers don't get caught because people don't realize they've been hacked, but stealing a game account is kinda too obvious for that to work. Either way, if you don't have any trojans on your PC and you get hacked, your ISP is shit and you should sue them.RickyP0602 wrote:While this might be the way life should work, life will not work that way 99% of the time. But seriously, hacking somebody's computer is a metric fuckton of work, and nobody with the skills to do it would find it worth his time to hack a private computer just to steal an MMO account. Hacking an MMO server could be worth it if you get away undetected, if it's WoW or some other MMO that you can make money on.
So, if we're talking how the real life works, it's virtually impossible to get your account stolen if you're not stupid about it. I'd say you have a better chance winning a lottery while getting struck by lightning in a plane crash than having your account genuinely hacked. So I think your welfare analogy doesn't really work - you'd have to have one genuine poor guy and millions of system abusers to make it comparable.

What? Are you claiming rage killed his own character for some reason?burgingham wrote:Random stories some anonymous persons are pulling out of their asses should not.
I love seeing you twist and turn to be both against rage getting a rezz and not excluding future rezzes for compromised acounts.
