Mine Hole Decay

Post by Essemecks »

This isn't a "Herpaderp, moar minez pl0x" post. My reasoning behind suggesting the institution of mine hole decay is that, as of now, prospecting as a skill is nigh-worthless. Because if covers such a HUGE area, it means that it's only useful to the first person to gain access to rustroot in each region. After that, all of the mines in the region will be swiftly claimed, and prospecting no longer discovers them.

The thing is, it's not that all of the mines in the world are currently in use: it's just that they can't currently be found due to claim and abandonment. If the mine hole was allowed to decay and return the mine to it's "hidden" state, prospecting would once again become useful in allowing newer players to find "used" mines that have fallen out of service. I saw it suggested that prospecting should find active mines, but I don't like that idea because it should be up to the claimant to maintain repairs to their mine hole, and in doing so keep the hole off the radar, so to speak. The only reason someone would be able to prospect the hole using my suggestion would be if the claimant underwent a significant period of inactivity and allowed the mine to decay.

well, that wouldn't work.
What happens when I large village gets tired of walking for 5 minutes to get to the wall of their mine?
They just let it decay and remake it to the normal 5x5 or 4x4 or whatever?

Oh, I wasn't suggesting that the mine be fresh when the hole decays. Hence stating that it would find a "used" mine. Perhaps the feedback from prospecting could indicate that so that someone doesn't think they're finding a brand new mine, but regardless, all I'm looking for is for the mine hole to be able to decay and return the mine to its hidden, prospectable state even if it remains in the same dug-out state that its prior owners left it in.

It would be far far better to allow Rustroot Extract to detect minerals even if a mine has already been built. This would prevent a few players from monopolizing a bunch of mines with alt accounts, as with Rustroot still detecting the minerals, more attention would be directed toward their remote, and formerly inconspicuous, mines. This would require more active defense of remote alt mines, or force more mines to be sold or "leased" to other hearthlings.

I think this would be best overall as it would necessitate more interaction between hearthlings (for good or ill). This is a MMO after all. ;)

Means anyone with a gold mine can hide the fact they are sitting on a gold mine?...

Not really my cup o tea.

Basically means whoever has more firepower than wits to disguise or hide the mine wins?

None of this matters because:
1)Next world mining will probably be 100% different than what it is now ; People will either want more than one of each type, and other such things.

2)No point in implementing it right now, which is what you would want.

Is there any information about when the new world is expected to come? I've been hearing about it for as long as I've been here... My associate quit in July because he heard it was coming soon, which obviously wasn't the case. If it's gonna take a really long time, I think it does matter since we're all still playing right now. Without mines to try new things with, all that's left for us is endlessly searching for mines or grinding.
That is, assuming the mine decay would be fast enough to be worthwhile here. If we were to expect the new world just a month after the mines finally decayed, it would be pretty pointless indeed.

also prospecting is a usefull skill like others...even when you don't use it often to find mines. If you had to keep repairing a mine it would become tireing

Not very soon. The world won't be reset until the devs figure out and implement a number of changes to the way shit works, like new LP system and mapgen and probably a bunch of other things.
