The chances of HnH running on an iPhone are non-existent due to Steve Jobs' policy on open standards.
The chances of HnH running on regular smartphones with mobile java are just as non-existent because the mobile java VM lacks crucial parts of x86 java VM.
In addition to that, you need about 10x the processing power (if not more) of the best phones that are out there atm just to display current HnH graphics. Maybe the iPhone's Kyro VGA would help here. Still, iPhone CPU sucks iirc, so there's a new bottleneck. I don't think loftar would prioritize coding a mobile version over developing new stuff (atleast I hope so), which means that as long as there is no community-made client fitted to mobile java, we'll never see a mobile version of HnH.
However, coding a new client from scratch would mean knowing the mechanics of server-client communication, which, if I'm not mistaken, is part of loftar's proprietary server code, since making it accessible to the public would promote hacking. I remember reading a thread in Bugs where a guy manipulated outgoing traffic to make the server think he harvested 100 carrots instead of one and got 40k lp each time he harvested a plant. Thankfully, he posted it instead of abusing the hell out of it. Who knows what other things are out there...
tl;dr: You can't play HnH on a Nokia 33-10

Porting the HnH client to the iPhone is probably more or less impossible, since Apple doesn't even allow running Java on them. :P
Porting it to Android phones may be possible, however and, as has been discussed previously, might be an interesting exercise. If anything, the Dalvik VM that is used on Android does seem to suck a bit; in particular, it seems to be using a mark-and-sweep GC, which will probably clash with the client's memory allocation patterns and cause lots of GC lag.

The protocol itself isn't secret at all. You can read all about it in code form in the haven.Session class. Making it "secret" would be pointless anyway, since it could be reverse-engineered by anyone.Thurrok wrote:However, coding a new client from scratch would mean knowing the mechanics of server-client communication, which, if I'm not mistaken, is part of loftar's proprietary server code, since making it accessible to the public would promote hacking.
I do honestly doubt that was true, though. They never managed to reproduce it.Thurrok wrote:I remember reading a thread in Bugs where a guy manipulated outgoing traffic to make the server think he harvested 100 carrots instead of one and got 40k lp each time he harvested a plant.
