i am not trying to make this into a discussion of what should and shouldn't be sold.
also, i am not trying to focus on the damage done by rbows or the relatively cheap investment in a ranger alt, although i feel these are valid points in themselves.
maybe i can illustrate my point another way.
let's say we had a new item added, the catapult. you build a catapult, now you can load up a guy in the catapult and toss him over a wall. now i can send my melee guy right into the middle of the village to kill anyone in sight. of course this would be written off as ridiculously imbalanced and would never happen. but for the purpose of killing players, how is this any different than being able to shoot them through the wall?

Re: The combat system
I see your point, but that's the power difference of the bow. It shouldn't have any limits on it's damage compared to now, but it should be harder to get to that damage, perhaps STR working in a similar way to PER/AGI, but against the bow, so that you need STR let's say 2~6x higher than the Ranger's Bow to do that 'max' damage.
You're also still standing inside, that person has to be standing still for 5+ seconds (it's 3~4 seconds at POINT BLANK range, no idea over a wall but at least 5, most likely 7+, depends on how far away), if you're walls are properly secured you can never be shot.
All the good points of a ranger's bow are easily tossed aside by how easy they are to stop.
The same way that you are vulnerable to anyone melee by not having a wall and I'd tell you to get a fucking brick wall up instead of complaining, you are vulnerable to anyone with a ranger's bow by not having proper distance between your plot (where you are most of the time), the innards of your village (to protect your people), and such, you now have no way of being attacked.
The limit is 45 tiles, after that you can't SEE any people, even with dfwk's infinite zoom you just won't see the actual person. It's 100 tiles if they saw you and then backed away, but that 45 is all it takes so they can't even see you in the first place. So just as if you have a wall, all vilages should have this.

yet another cost of having a safe and successful village, i suppose. not only does everyone need to build a brickwall, now they need to build a fucking big brickwall, possibly larger than the space they wanted to use, or maintain authority on.
well, thanks for giving the community the info they need to defend against ranger bow fuckery, much appreciated

Well before I can one shot bears with valor, now it only deal 152 damage to it. Right now I switched to sling just for the purpose of hunting and I'm getting a good deal more LP than I did before. Almost getting back the LP I paid for in increased speed.

Re: The combat system
The problem with ranger bows is that 5 seconds of standing still can result in death without any warning, and the whole god damned game is built around standing still. Milking cows, shearing sheep, picking leaves, grinding flour, sorting seeds/chickens, crafting shit - virtually every task requires you to stand still, usually for well over 30 seconds. Sure, you can move your view around like a spastic on speed to make sure nobody is sneaking up on you, but I can think of more fun ways to get carpal tunnel syndrome.

Yeah, I was pretty upset when I couldn't one-shot a bear last night with Valor. Second hit barely did anything either; about 130 or so.Dataslycer wrote:Well before I can one shot bears with valor, now it only deal 152 damage to it. And, normally I could even sting cows to death. Now, I need to Valor. And, on top of that, I can keep my defense up with a herd of 6 cows without a problem. Last night I lost like 150 shp trying to do it :/

Use two stings instead. The first one shouldn't do enough damage to make it run, the second one should finish the job. With the new formula in place, Valorous isn't as superior to Sting as it used to be.

Re: The combat system
Meh at this rate hunting with melee is completely worthless just go for at least 50 mm and increase from there.

Yeah, melee might still have a place in pvp but, for hunting I only see MM working anymore unless you like sitting twice as long getting more IP.
