yes, i was playing a game called Stronghold Kingdoms, had high hopes when laying the alpha, then the beta came out and they introduced the option to buy unlimited Crowns (kinda of like "gold" mentioned above), and no free Crowns that were in the Alpha, and then on day 2 there were people with 3000 points, super fast scouts, max production, and actual armies, while everyone else was still deciding how whether to try attacking a Wolf Den...
Free to Play, with Option to Pay is a game breaker. But H&H will never be that...i hope...

That's irrelevant, I still asked a question that hasn't been answered. Asking a question is not wasting time.DigDog wrote:Actually that was input.Shask wrote:Go away if you have no input.DigDog wrote:That post was a waste of your and our time.
The devs already said they're not planning on "thinking big" any time soon. Nor do they want to include anything into the game that you can buy with real money or "donations". A forum search prior to making that post wouldn't have hurt.

I kinda want a subscription system.
Havent donated yet, but if it came to subscription, i would definately pay up.

After GW and LotRO and DDO and countless korean games its becoming the common view that F2P models actually make more money than subscription models for small time MMOs. They hook in more players and are often friendlier to casuals.
Whether or not the system is bearable all depends on what form of microtransactions they go with, it doesn't always mean a power increase. Many games have them as cosmetic (ex. special avatars) or convenience only, so keep an open mind when it comes to them having a cash shop, you don't need to spend anything on that junk.
also laffo at this thread coming up during Alpha

Re: Games where you use IRL money - H&H Subscription
Those are good thoughts and got me thinking.
What if we did add a bunch of useless cosmetic shit to bestow on donators. It'd give jorb an artistic obligation (which may be positive pressure) to provide new content that can be used unexclusively at the next reset or whatever and no longer needs to be cosmetic either. Custom house skins, clothes, etc.
Since H&H is largely Eq dependant we might also sell the ability to make unique armor (that is identical to current armor in every way but sprites), merchant robes or other. While they're not purely cosmetic items they will not effect any unfair advantage because they cost the same to make and give the same effects. They will however, stimulate trade I believe.
For lesser donations a single item's sprite can be changed.
Could even turn a cow into a horse (that's technically still a cow) so we can PRETEND to have a horse at the helm =P.
Etc.

Re: Games where you use IRL money - H&H Subscription
I've played the biggest example and most notable example of this for years: MapleStory. Game was fun as hell on all accounts before Cash Shop rolled in, then they made so much money a month they put WoW to shame in that first quarter, and by the end of the next year Blizzard was talking about microtransactions themselves, as it stands now last I read they make an average of over $50/month per player, much more than Blizzard does for WoW which is like what, 15 a month?
While that's said, microtransactions are fine and dandy, until they give a legitimate boost. If you're #1 and competing and someone can buy some way of boosting XP or their money (by a fuckload more than you could ever get without paying IRL money) you're gonna lose, because suddenly they are more efficient than you.
The same would happen in HnH unless it was handled very carefully (and it's never carefully enough), so I'd definitely prefer P2P over P2E as well.

uh its pretty easy to imagine them being cosmetic-only if youre at all familiar with these systems. and just consider the response from the hairdo threadDatOneGuy wrote:The same would happen in HnH unless it was handled very carefully (and it's never carefully enough), so I'd definitely prefer P2P over P2E as well.

come on dog....'handle carefully'? Not so much as just adhereing to the principle of 'cosmetic only'. no real game effects from contributing to the project. Just a pretty pixel anyone could use but in your instance it's official art from Jorb signifying your investment to the game and a moniker for future content as you wear new sprites.
I mean, you can't really get more ethical than that when it comes to paid content.

Well you could still theoretically get ahead ingame by selling the unique skin stuff you can create at very high prices but I agree the impact is minimal and you can always kill the bastard (and wealth means shit in hh anyway).
