Did a quick search of C&I and didn't find any topics really relating to this idea I am going to propose, but like I said it was quick so I apologize if this has been mentioned before.
I for one believe the Lawspeaker of a village should be able to claim ANYWHERE in the world, by building a banner, statue, or whatever and taking over said territory in the name of their village.
This would easily eliminate the need to build up alts with lawspeaking and 30k LP just to claim a node you found an hour or so away from your village, because this is something I find rather tedious and annoying just to further secure something which can be taken fairly easily the same way anyways.
Of course, this would come with certain restrictions and some negative aspects as well. For example, a village wants to take over a node that is covered by a personal claim, however, the ability to build a banner and remove that claim should just be NOT allowed. To remove a personal claim or even claim over one, the next banner or statue you build must be "attached" to the rest of your village as well to do this. (Attached as in there is a clear path of village territory all the way to the Idol)
Second, building a banner or statue not attached to your main village should have a much larger drain on authority. As is, authority is very easy to keep up even just for one person if they play often enough, and I don't think that mechanic is a very good one. Adding in larger authority drains such as this would make it much more reasonable for a village to have ACTIVE members rather than 20+ inactive members while only one or two keeps the authority up.
Edit: Forgot to mention that this is probably something that could not be implemented until the current wall jumping exploit was taken care of.
Opinions, suggestions or cold, hard critique are very much appreciated!

Re: Village Claiming and Authority
I think this idea has merit as well, however...
It should:
It should:
- 1 - Require a special building sort to do this, this building sort must
- A. Not be within X-squares (On the scale of mini-maps) of the edge of the original village claim, nor any other building of it's type (whether the villages or not).
B. Require something on the value order of steel or greater to create.
C. Require an amount of authority determined by some factor of the distance from the home village.
D. Consume authority at a rate determined by the above.
E. Be able to be overbuilt and removed by an actual village claim, at a cost of authority inversely proportionate to it's distance from it's home village.

Sounds like a good idea that could be very useful with a bit of input from everyone

Re: Village Claiming and Authority
An amendment to this could possibly be that the village could claim anything that a member of that village had claimed; the lawspeaker would be able to place an item on the member's plot which would cause the plot to act as village territory in addition to the personal claim. As the member increases their plot through LP expenditure, the village claim on that plot grows as well. The addition of an authority penalty due to distance would be of questionable value - if there was none, this would permit the semi-paradoxical concept of hermit villages but at the same time, would permit a village to have various sorts of encampments, such as hunting camps, mining camps, logging camps, et cetera, outside of the village proper.

Few big problems im seeing with this would be that what if you wanted to declaim the property because you have less villagers but you are unable to find the land because its so far away. If you want a land far away claimed just do it with a stake on an alt. You wont lose authority and youll have ot controlled. It wont negatively affect your village when your unable to find where you placed the banner. That is why the current system is in place.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy
