Not to rag on the admins and mods, but will there ever be a perma, or at least more reliable, fix to the server?

What are you talking about? This is a completely new server and it hardly ever crashes anymore. There might be crashes when new code is implemented and somehow fucked up (I have no clue about these kind of things) and since that will happen again and again since the game is in an alpha stage you will have to deal with the occasional crash. You should be glad that the lag is practically gone and we have like 2 or 3 crashes a week. It is soooo much better than before.

Yep agree I think this is second crash this week so don't be sillky, server is freaking imba and much much better than one before. Almost no lag (maybe at peaks hours some lag at some times but very very little). Devs did a great job on new server. If now crashes there is maybe new stuff implementing, some DB fuckup or some kiddies doing some wierd stuff to crash it. But overall, I would give 4/5 for server stability and 4,5/5 for lagfree.

Its the second one today. It crashed, I left, came back, rode around on my boat, then it crashed again.
