I'd definitely watch and gamble, might not participate at first for safety reasons but if it gains a good reputation, I'm sure I'd be willing to go into the arena.

Also, maybe supplying the armor and weapons (just bronze stuff of a consistent quality) would be a good idea to try and balance it a bit. I wouldn't want to waste my good gear fighting in an arena!

and why no herd fights? wouldnt be too hard to set up if its surrounded by grassland. how about an "auroch chase"? new spawn chars have to run for their lives all nacked with 20 aurochs behind them

good, but how would "new spawn chars" get the aurochs to attack them in the first place? They won't have the will to power. Maybe noob alts no one wants

I would not pay to watch a fight. (I would most definitely gamble on intriguing fights, though.)
I would not sign up to be a combatant. (It's just too risky as it is now, in my opinion.)

sparring is for babies, and it can be hard to judge who won.

The fact that it is not sparring makes it too risky for contestants unless they are premade alts that are given to each matcher for each match and fought as equal stats.
