Re: Agility and the new update
I may agree, but I'll need to think about it a bit more. One of the issues is how that would be consistent with items that buff agility upwards (like the cutthroat cuirass) -- should they (or just some (which?) of them?) also buff agility in the same way?Potjeh wrote:I'd rather have it scale with base agi than with armour q.

Re: Agility and the new update
Debuffs scale, buffs flat - it makes the playing field another bit more even, and I don't think we're anywhere near the point where it might be too even.
The main issue with scaling with armour q is that getting better armour would be a downgrade for early and mid game characters, which can't be healthy for the game's economy. Getting better stuff should always be a good thing.

this is what i meant. although i wouldn't mind higher q having slightly less debuff, i don't really care about it.Potjeh wrote:I'd rather have it scale with base agi than with armour q.

Yeah, having better armour impose less penalty makes a lot of sense.

Re: Agility and the new update
That would be nice if it did that. -Cough-
Also doing it on base AGI is a dick move, I understand why you want it, but I don't think it'll bode too well. Grinding up that high is enough of a bitch , why make it worse?

It definitely shouldn't impose more penalty when quality increase, makes no sense.Potjeh wrote:Yeah, having better armour impose less penalty makes a lot of sense.

Re: Agility and the new update
Scaling the penalty with base AGI is the only thing that makes sense IMHO, otherwise the penalty will be crippling to new characters and inconsequential to veteran fighters.
I agree that the penalty should be unaffected by the armor quality. Scaling the penalty with quality would make high quality armor annoying to use, especially for newer characters, and reducing it is unnecessary, the increase in damage resistance is a good enough benefit from armor quality already, and if the agi penalty was reduced it might also become inconsequential to veteran fighters with top of the line armor.

Re: Agility and the new update
I really dislike the notion of percentage-based scaling armour penalties, as I already said in the announcement thread. It is a simple psychological thing, but still: instead of having a clear obstacle to overcome you have a constant handicap.
Overall I find the notion of "leveling the playing field" this way silly - instead of getting stronger we should just focus on strategic suicides to get better ancestors?
Does it make sense design wise to allow anyone wear anything? I don't know about you guys, but I enjoy having something to work towards. Currently you can just slap thanes and top q gear on a freshly macro'd char and have a character that can pose a threat to a combat char that has been worked on for months.
If this is the path you still want to take, please do something about this:

It is real annoying to have to hover over your stats to find out what is your actual stat (and the mouseover doesn't reveal where the result actually comes from). Add another column for the base stat?

Re: Agility and the new update
Well I find the notion of completely linear progress (steel plate is best and everyone's goal) to be dull, if I wanted that I'd play ProgressQuest. I don't feel like there's lack of progression in D&D just because my rogue can never effectively wear plate armour. Yeah, I get that you want to be a barbarian that casts, heals and disarms traps, but such Mary Sues make for a boring game.
And LOL @ fresh alt beating a dedicated combat char, the alt would get his ass handed to him because the combat char would have much higher combat skills and agi.
