As we`re speaking of somewhat Kavkaz setting atm, why did not anyone mentioned plov?

It`s like rice porridge with small pieces of carrot, onion and, of course, meat(chicken or mutton - preferably chicken). It would give use to both mutton and onion(and carrot, yeah).

yeah, plov (pilav) was one of the uses for rice immediately coming up, just didn't want to throw more unfamiliar words around. it's not too far-fetched - with silk, tea and tobacco we should be fine with potatoes, cabbage, ceddars, cotton and rice
another one would be rice + vinegar + raw fish = sushi! we already eat sashimi from time to time - those raw fish filets
that would be frigging awesome. but that's probably more the anime fan speaking

Well, I like the idea about 3 steps of cooking schaschlyk - cutting into pieces, marinade and smoke the meat.
-can be put into a bucket)
-sauce for marinade can be made like wine - in a barrel
-the better the sharp tool is - the better is the q of schaschlyk
