Tracking random scents at Nople ain't cool.

Post by Thurrok »

After five weeks of hard detective work, I've finally found out where the corpse of Trunks, my ex-miner alt, lies. I really liked him, since he had lime hair and was overall a cool character. Also, he could craft more than epic 200q jewelry. He died at Nople for leaving a theft scent without having a HF. Ofcourse one could argue that doing such a silly thing in a frequently visited location like Nople might not be the most clever act, but losing him is not my main problem. I acknowledge the mistake I made there. What bothers me is the fact that the perpetrator who killed Trunks carried his corpse all the way to the northern outskirts of Sodom, put him down there and made a runestone stating he had tracked the "thief".

Fact 1: Trunks was not a thief. He picked up a pickaxe he had dropped in Nople territory. Nobody asked Sodom for the scent to be tracked or for stolen items to be returned.
(Fun Fact: Trunks had learned the Theft skill just 5 min earlier)
Fact 2: A random stranger came to nople, saw a scent, killed the perp and put down a runestone, taking all of Trunks' belongings (pickaxe, sacks, scythe and some other tools that aren't expensive, just tiresome to get).
Fact 3: This jackass wants to make people think he did something for the greater good. Truth is, he could've raided a noob village and it wouldn't have been more criminal than this.

Screenshot of Trunks' runestone and temporary resting place:

TL;DR

Peeps, don't track scents without confirmation that something was actually stolen. It's NOT cool, you're NOT doing anyone a favor, you belong to the same criminal scum that you're pretending to punish.

P.S. I just realized my quickbar is a complete mess, lol.

That quickbar is indeed hilarious.

BTT: The only ones tracking scents in Nople are we, Sodom. Remember that people or you might get tracked yourselves.

There should be item like 'Mark of you-name-it town' so outsider with good reputation can enter and activate town stuffs without leaving scents.

Third party dude picking up scent, killing innocent people and speaking out "JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED!"... What a Joke.
What a shame, he was a good fish. What a rotten way to be filleted.

I don't find it wrong that strong faction is taking care of everything there, but I agree that sometimes would be wise to ask before slaughter.

However, CA off = good way not to die.

That sucks, R.I.P. lime hair. Jorb and Loftar should make it so the person leaves scents when they pick up scents on village or personal territory, I mean you have to turn on criminal acts to get them anyway.

You leave trespassing to do so, but this doesn't mean you killled the person.

IMO if you kill the person that 'trespassing' should turn into something else like "A ranger's scent" although I'm not sure that's possible but I think items on claims are changed 'after the fact' if they are taken out of the claim from trespassing->theft.

Scents should be forgivable by the "victim". ie, Owner of personal claim, LS / Chief of village, descendant of murder victim, etc. Right click + "Pardon Crime" or something. I'm sure some thought would be needed to avoid abuse, but seems reasonable overall.

I assume the immediate abuse would be to drop your own claim over the scent (if possible) and sweep it up, but if things like that could be prevented, this would be great. Sometimes your theft scent is a complete mistake (such as opening a boat or reading a parchment) and the "victim" probably wouldn't mind remove the scent.

It might be nice if random rangers couldn't even notice certain scents. I mean, how would they know something was stolen from a claim they've never been to before? Any murder could be evident with "blood", but this random ranger thing seems to have been complained about for as long as I've been here.
RIP
