It is really irritating when players create massive claims that they don't even use. Example: Some Russians created a large amount of banners, taking over an entire river just a little south of me. None of them ever use the river, and what I can say is that it is the only nearby spot where I can get a good supply of clay. When I said they took over the entire river, I mean the ENTIRE river, not even a single blank spot.
Now what I am suggesting is a limit to where village claims can go. What I have in mind is that village banners can't only expand too far away from their village claim. Maybe they should only be able to expand depending on the size of a village, like if there was 1-5 players, it can only expand 1 or 2 grids away from the claim and like 6-10 players, 4 or 5 grids away, you get what I am saying? Something like this would prevent villages from claiming everything, like the village to the south.
My idea expands into another. How about a system where personal claims only stay as active as their owners. I joined a player, and one thing I quickly noticed is that their are a lot of inactive claims around the area. They are annoying and uselessly taking up idle space which I could be using. What I am thinking of is a system where a claim can only last a month from a player's previous login. Lets say that a player quits the game, and has a rather large claim. When a month goes by, the claim dissapears. Something like that would help open the game world to newbies, and help long time players expand their land.

Re: Limits to Village Banners
at least village claims ARE connected directly to the activity of the playerbse of the village
every banner drains an certain amount of authority per time
you fill up auth by getting lp
if auth is = 0 the village claim wont work, like detecting crimes and so on
but i may be possible to implement a kind of personal auth, that would drain more slowly than villageauth.
so you may stay away for a month or two without bigger problems - but at least left claims would disappear after 3 or 4 months

Player amount should not factor in to it at all. The way it works is fine, where it is the investment of the players. Personal authority I would support though.

Re: Limits to Village Banners
With enough effort, personal claims can be removed by villages. There's tons of open space in the world for newbies and non-newbies alike to build upon. Some of the more populated regions have a few personal claims here and there, but you can just travel a bit farther if necessary.
If you put a limit on how much a village can expand, people will simply build another village when they hit the limit. Having it all in one village is more convenient for the villagers and for anyone attacking the village. If they're determined to claim a resource, they could even use a personal claim. It doesn't really have anything to do with the current village system; it's just that they claimed it first and decided not to share, or there may be some strategic reasons.
If you don't want to live around greedy players, you either have to kill them, try to join/negotiate with them, or move away.

Better to increase the authority drain from banners and statues, that way you'd need a huge village with loads of active players if you want to maintain a stupidly large village claim.
Once a man has changed the relationship between himself and his environment, he cannot return to the blissful ignorance he left. Motion, of necessity, involves a change in perspective.

I'd enjoy if statues were made much larger but actually lowered the 'drain to auth' ratio.
As of current they actually increase it ever so slightly from 14 days to eventually 14.5 or so days.
