In that case, I fully agree with Laremere.
Imprisoning someone could in that case be even worse than murder.

Re: Locks
Player-run imprisonment is something I've tried to work into one of my own planned projects in various ways. The basics of such a system aren't so hard (a knocked out player would be liftable, and can then be dropped into a nearby prison) but making the time spent in prison a decent part of the game is far harder. If there is an activity players can perform in prison that is reasonably enjoyable and maybe earns some LP, then that could make the time spent there more reasonable. Ideally it would be something enjoyable, some kind of minigame, though I'm not really sure of anything that would fit. The second issue is making sure that players can't be held for unreasonably long periods of time. The best way of doing this is probably allowing the jailed player to commit suicide. Also, I think the concept of creating a new character to arrange the escape of the old one just feels weird, escapes should be planned by someone who knows the character, not by someone who was just magically created.

Re: Locks
My take on this is that imprisonment should be a fate worse than death. It's really easy to keep attacking a knocked out enemy. But a community that goes through the trouble of building, maintaining, and guarding a prison to house any who've wronged them should rest secure that their opponent's land and possesions is not inherited by the enemy's next character.

This isn't QUITE true, Loftar.loftar wrote:That isn't actually necessarily true though, I think. It should be perfectly reasonable to create a new character and arrange for a prison-bust, for example. And, for that matter, one part of imprisoning someone is that you usually let them out after some time. I'm not completely unconvinced. Of course, right now, it's impossible to create a prison, since you can't move someone's hearth fire.
I'll show you in a moment.

Well, no, he actually said that it's impossible to create a prison, since you can't move a hearthfire.shockedfrog wrote:I think it was quite obvious that he meant it was impossible to prevent someone teleporting out of prison if that prison is not also their home.
But, since you can surround someone's hearthfire WITH a prison, it's entirely possible.

Re: Locks
I agree with idea to enable prisons as a fate worse than permadeath, provided breaking characters out of prison is possible. Raiding villages is a high-profit activity, so it should carry a high risk. To ensure that imprisonment could only be used in defence, the prison building should take a lot of time and resources and it should only be possible to imprison people that are incapped within a certain radius of the prison building.
