i like the idea of upgrading existing structures as a form of noncharacter advancementImpalerWrG wrote:If this was the case then a well would need to have the same cost as a Mineshaft, or perhaps both both are somehow created from a similar root-structure 'hole in the ground' which can be upgraded to accommodate water collecting or actual movement into the subterranean plane.

Like the OP.

This has so many awesome possibilities. Build a well. Hide stuff in the cavern below. Use as a hidden exit or entry to villages, hideouts, etc.

I don't want to make a new topic, but could it be possible to build a mineshaft UPWARDS?

You do realise that this would make walls utterly useless, and villages completely undefendable?

Re: Caves and Wells
Perhaps wells are constructed differently than mines, such that trying to dig in the cramped space of the bottom of a well results in the area collapsing?

Maybe paving in brick stops invasions?

Well, indestructable fortresses aren`t nice either. Then, you can always build a layer of walls underground to prevent yourself being raped by maniac diggers.jgudge wrote:This.Potjeh wrote:You do realise that this would make walls utterly useless, and villages completely undefendable?
