As it is now, the tradition/change belief slider can lead to some weird emergent gameplay that can play havoc with OUR IMMERSION.
A 100% change character will have to start over from scratch, which normally I'd respond to with tough shit/personal responsibility/bootstraps but, still, it's a kind of system which encourages utter cowardice and safeguarding of possessions and life while also breeding a reactionary sentiment against game developments which might lay groundwork for a more inclusive setting to bring in new players: (re: combat balancing so we don't have this tiered system of people who are all but invulnerable to those in a lower tier). It's also easy to fall into because of the desire to set up your optimal belief sliders. Also, players can quit when they get the overwhelming sense of, "twas all for naught!"
The 100% tradition slider, on the other hand, allows for risk-free, suicidal rampaging when a player gets bored enough. This is much to the dismay and terror of the 100% change types who can get caught in the crossfire.
I'd propose capping the system at 80% at either end of the spectrum (Full Trad = 80% kept, Full Change 20% kept) and balancing the LP multiplier accordingly, so the principles are still in place without the problems that spring up from the current absolutist system which perverts gameplay by taking those principles to an extreme.

For once, I agree with you. Also, possibly when you change belief sliders, the change slider only moves toward change when it is half way between change and the starting position, so changing other sliders can't force yourself into full change.

OBJECTION!
Half measures are for half men, let us go 100%
Maybe stop moving towards change automagically past 80% though so you can only get to 100% if you actually invest in it.

Like I said normally I'd agree but, again, like I said, weird gameplay develops.
I mean Rift drank himself to death because he wanted a new name.

someone mentioned that +1 change for changing your belief every 8hrs /played wouldn't be so bad if you got +1 trad every time you skipped a chance to change beliefstheTrav wrote:Maybe stop moving towards change automagically past 80% though so you can only get to 100% if you actually invest in it.
but that would be identical to having it choose +trad for you, really

The last point into change with full peaceful is a grand total of 72% more LP, only an idiot would not put the last point in.theTrav wrote:OBJECTION!

It's not a linear scale? crazy!Delamore wrote:The last point into change with full peaceful is a grand total of 72% more LP, only an idiot would not put the last point in.theTrav wrote:OBJECTION!

It's just that by the time you would be putting the last point into change, you'd have peaceful at max or add the last point next most of the time.
72% is alot of LP to miss out on

Re: Capping Trad/Change at 80%
Sorry, I'm too slow to pick up on what you're saying.. 72x5 = 360% appears to indicate that each of the 5 steps are worth 72%, so the value in the last point is the same as the value in the other 4 points? Or are you saying that there's some sort of synergy between peaceful and change that makes change more worth while if you go peaceful? or vice versa?Delamore wrote: 72x5 = 360%

Also, I thought that the change slider made a 300% difference (the other 30% coming from martial vs peaceful)
It's early days now, people have only played for a month or two... If a character accumulated 6 months worth of experience however, the small gain on day to day work probably wouldn't outweigh the risk of losing the 6 months of accumulated xp...

if you are full peaceful it gives LP X 1.2
if you are full change it gives LP X 3
if you are both it gives LP X 1.2 X 3
