Well, I was giving them the benefit of the doubt, assuming they just had trouble learning social norms and mores, instead of jumping to them having disdain for humanity and empathy in general, right off the bat.Grelf wrote:It's not Asperger's, just ASPD.LimaZulu wrote:I like how trash talking justifies murder.
I swear, how many people who play this have Asperger's?

It's walled for a reason. Unless the person gets invited in, I don't see how he has any good intentions, unless he knows what he's doing.Sarvoth wrote:Is your definition of 'intruder' a random newbie who is figuring out the game or a friendly trader? If not then that is why you close the gate. If you aren't interested in social contact or trading then leave your gate closed. If you aren't interested in getting your shit jacked, leave your gate closed. Leaving your town gate open and killing anyone who steps through it is utterly asinine.Grelf wrote:Well, if they can deal with the intruders, why not leaving it opened?Sarvoth wrote:If you don't want people to walk inside your gated area then close the fucking gate

Yea I hear you. Population is picking up; however, I just can't play the game right now because I've done everything there is to do and territory mechanics are jacked for various reasons.Osium wrote:
We don't hate DF, in fact we love it. The problem is the population is so low in DF that we cannot justify playing it. IF the population eventually recovers it is the number 1 game for us.
The people playing this game have no idea
BTW, word on the street is DHW plays this game as well. I don't know where they live though. But the village I'm in will be on the look out for your guys. Maybe we can establish a rapport and get some trading going on or something.
Anyways, GL.

I visit towns with public areas quite often. If you cannot understand something so simple as the fact that many large and peaceful towns actively trade and maintain barter stands inside walled (and public) areas with open gates then you're obviously a relatively short sighted or simple minded chap.Grelf wrote: It's walled for a reason. A newbie might enter the gate to meet new people or explore and not realize that the town is full of murderous trigger happy dickheads. A trader might enter the gate to check and see if there are active stands inside or people working who might make good contacts, trade partners, and/or allies. This is a social game and you can close the gates for a reason, the ability to close your gates allows you to discern who has bad intentions and who doesn't. If someone is trying to ram down your gate while it is closed then they're obviously a bad guy, if someone steps through because you left it open and gives a friendly hello and initiates conversation then their intentions are probably a little less malicious

Well, the point is that the area in question wasn't what you mentioned, and they were frequently being raided by Russians. People do commit mistakes and accidentally leave their gates opened sometimes. I wouldn't enter gates just assuming that it is a trading area and expecting a nice reception, unless I spotted something that indicated that or found runestones telling me that the place is safe. If I saw some random foreigner wandering around where my goods are, especially when being raided by mad Russians, I'd attack without thinking twice.Sarvoth wrote:I visit towns with public areas quite often. Then you'd wind up being just as indiscriminate as the raiders. If you leave your gate open you should expect company, for better or worse.Grelf wrote:Well, the point is that the area in question wasn't what you mentioned, and they were frequently being raided by Russians. Don't go into gates unless you make yourself known before hand. Its that simple. There are too many raiders out there to just wonder into some area and expect to be safe. Just because some people have walled areas with stands doesn't mean thats a good idea.Sarvoth wrote:I visit towns with public areas quite often. As I said, mistakes happen. It's not like I will just sit and watch my village possibly get sacked just because someone forgot the gate opened.Sarvoth wrote:Then you'd wind up being just as indiscriminate as the raiders. I assume that once we have regional cities this logic should still apply? Anyone walking about randomly in open walled areas is subject to be shot down because they're a potential raider? You guys are paranoid, if you're paranoid or you don't have a partitioned town then you keep your gate closed. Shooting first and never asking questions leads to problems and collateral damage that is avoidable by not being lazy and/or stupid.gadien wrote:

Shooting a random guy who steps through your gate is more likely to get your village sacked than ordering the dude to leave. You'll KNOW if he's stealing, vandalizing, or attacking anyone. I cannot fathom how the first conclusion you'd draw is to shoot the guy on the 'wrong' side of your open gate.Grelf wrote:As I said, mistakes happen. Open walled areas? What are you talking about? Walls = my territory , my territory = you make yourself known before coming in it. If you walk into an open gate don't expect people to just be like "oh hes friendly I'll let him pass" and don't expect open gates to be an invitation to come in without making yourself known. How hard is it to say "HI! do you have anything for trade" in publicSarvoth wrote:I assume that once we have regional cities this logic should still apply?
