I dunno about you, but I want to be safe for more than 24 hours. I'm not sure if that Battleaxe is worth the angry Rangers sniping all my friends.Pictor wrote:And so does yours. I'm not an incredibly potent warrior, but I could go sailing, right now, stealing whatever I felt like and killing pretty much whoever I came across, so long as they didn't have a wall. I could then bring it all home, kick back, and sleep easy knowing that I'd be perfectly safe for at least 24 hours. I wouldn't, of course, because I'm not a complete douchbag, but the fact that the only thing stopping me from freely shitting all over the surrounding country side is my conscience does not bode well for anybody.TheYatesMachine wrote:Now instantly every town without metal falls to your whim.

With the key difference being that I wouldn't be perfectly safe from harm while I sleep.Grelf wrote:And with this change you could also steal and kill anyone easily even if they had palisades.Pictor wrote:And so does yours. I think the inviability of making palisides weaker has been adequately established to you by now; I do like your other ideas of Day/Night, however.

What I'm not getting is why people seem to be assuming that nerfs only happen to them.SeanPan wrote:I think the inviability of making palisides weaker has been adequately established to you by now

Palisades were pathetically weak in world 1, and it didn't work out at all. They're weak enough now, major factions are days away from handbashing them.

That is not the reason why we object to this change. It is simply an inadequte remedy that worsens the issue rather than resolves it. Insofar that the aggressive player already has the advantage of choosing when and where to hit, by removing passive defense as an obstacle, you have worsened the effective ability of Killers to slaughter entire townships of denizens.Pictor wrote:What I'm not getting is why people seem to be assuming that nerfs only happen to them.
Killers, on the other hand, by their very virtue, tend to be better prepared for combat and do not need walls as much. So by definition, you have weakened more social individuals with less combat ability, and further aided and assisted aggressive Killer archetype characters and penalized everyone else.
They are also likely to be more online, more active and otherwise more capable of responding to situations involving mortal danger. This is not true of more peaceful players.
It simply worsens the situation.

Re: Retribution and Lawkeeping
Hmm, good point. Just nerfing palisades alone wouldn't do much, and in fact might do more harm than good. I should probably think of some additional changes that would work well in conjunction with palisade nerfing. I should then make a topic about it. I should then state, in the topic, that simply nerfing palisades alone would be detrimental without various other changes in conjunction with that. Thanks for your input, guys!

Re: Retribution and Lawkeeping
Palisades should provide reactive abilities, like having spikes set up on it so hearthlings breaking it down without a ram suffers SHP damage.
Brick Wall then becomes the major defensive abilities, being able to hold off Hearthling smashes...
Btw, your palisades are useless against 20 alts that spams hf till they get through.
