After about the one hour mark, almost all the bootstrap LP was consumed and I spent the second hour almost entirely wandering aimlessly around a forest. Playing with multiple people would unlikely have made much of a difference (unless you had a dedicated survivalist generating cows and pulling up ants) unless they were already well established, and in that event I think it's a moot point. In the end, I had carpentry, lumberjacking, foraging, fishing, hunting, 7 exploration and about 500 LP. That was after two hours of concentrated play on a new character.
If I am "right" or "wrong" is largely irrelevant. This is data. I hope it is of some use to the developers in improving the game and to forum warriors trying to win arguments. In either event, I doubt I'll be playing the game again until things change.

I have been convinced successfully that the LP system might need some early acceleration that relies on a merchanism other than raiding anthills for a rare drop. Some other option may be a good idea; I do think that if I was a total newbie, the system would at least be slightly daunting.
